As President-elect Obama looks for ways to save our economy, I'd like to humbly suggest he consider taking a page out of Oprah Winfrey's play book by offering an 'Everybody Gets a Chevy!" economic stimulus plan.
The measure, which would put a new American-built car or truck in every American driveway, would put GM back on its feet, send thousands of GM employees back to work and free up consumer cash for other necessities such as conversion kits and spinner hubcaps. And the cost? What's a few trillion among friends?
I'm undecided about whether Americans should have the opportunity to pick out the model and accessory packages of their free car. Put me down for a 'Vette, though. A red one.
And yes, this is satire.

Until management gets on the ball and kicks out the union and finds people who are professional and will work, then he may as well forget it. Americans will not continue to buy low quality products that cannot even be guaranteed. Yes, for a short time, but imports blow them out of the water in all areas. When they get an honest days work out of the employees who are so called "workers", then it is a joke. They have three or more doing one persons work and they take turns sleeping at that.... Or finding other ways to take up the time besides working at a snails pace. Ultimately, the unions have enabled the employees to be thieves which they are. They steal time which is a precious comodity and get paid for it. In doing so, the cost of all union made products are sky high. Management just raise prices to go with the cost and then that puts the product that is already inferior, out of the price range of most people....... Fire the management and the Unions and get to work being honest. Toyota is here in the good ole USA with at least a dozen plants and they are making a huge profit... Dumb Americans.

We seriously need to get on with the business of becoming energy independent. While we are doing the happy dance around the pumps with the lower prices OPEC is planning yet more production cuts and will not quit until they achieve their desired price per barrel. The record high prices this past year have done serious damage to our economy and society. WE must move forward with energy independence. We have the knowledge, we have the technology, what America lacks is a plan. Jeff Wilson has a new book out that is beyond awesome. The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. He walks you through every aspect of oil, what it is used for besides gas, our depletion of it. The worlds increased need ie 3rd world countries becoming more modernized and consuming more. He explains EVERY alternative energy source and what role they can play to replace oil. His research is backed up with hard data and even includes a time frame and proposed legislative agendas to wean America off oil.

Subsidizing a failed business model is a very bad idea. You will only get more of the same thing, and postpone the inevitable. The longer the going-out-of-business takes with GM, the more people will be hurt.

Very entertaining idea with a bit of sarcasm added to boot. I can tell all of you that Detroit is working on hybrids and planned to roll a few out next year. Hope they make it. I'll get one of those if the offer is still good by then.

The problem with "A Chevy in every garage" the unions always use these opportunities to get more then they deserve. Example. Back in the 70's GM had a large over stock of inventory. They came up with the rebate programs to move cars. The plan was to use the money to retool and start building a line of cars with increased MPG to compete with Japan. But when the unions saw GM made a huge windfall from moving old inventory, they went on strike to get more money. Even though the rank and file had already been paid to build those cars they felt they deserved more. Maybe GM needs to fall to let everyone know, especially the unions, that everyone needs to work together to solve a problem and always be self-serving. Demanding something you haven't earned is only to make matters worse.
