When Donald Trump isn't busy getting sued for defaulting on loans, he occasionally finds time to sue other people.
The Los Angeles Times reports that The Donald is suing Rancho Palos Verdes for $100 million for thwarting his efforts to maintain his precious "Trump Image" at the country club he built there five years ago. TMZ chimes in that "Trump is particularly pissed that he's been blocked from building a clubhouse terrace and a row of 12-foot ficus trees to block what he thinks are unsightly houses -- the last thing his putters want to see."
The poster boy of nepotism and grandiosity is accusing the town of fraud and, get this, civil rights violations.
But before you get out that Rosa Parks plaque to bestow on Trump for his battle against prejudice, the city and its residents have a few things to say. Mayor Larry Clark told the Times that the city has tried very hard to work with Donald Trump and he fears the lawsuit is going to anger many residents. One retired citizen added that "I think he just feels rules aren't made for him. He expects them to say he can do it because he's Donald Trump."
Trump has been the victim of an endless litany of atrocities. For instance, they wouldn't let him rename a road after himself. Hello? Haven't these people heard of the Civil Rights Act?

Being one of "these people", I just have to say, the day the city shook hands with 'the Donald', all I could think was that we had just made a deal with the Devil. I wish I didn't have to say 'I told you so..."
RPV--a sleepy and beautiful coastal suburb of L.A.--once saved from egregious development by active citizens who had the vision needed to save our wide-open rugged coast--took a different turn in the last decade or so. RPV's 1970s incorporation as a city unto itself was intended to give us power to control our destiny. A moratorium on development was enacted, and things stayed beautiful for a long time.
It seems the bulldozers fired up as the hour chimed at the end of the moratorium.
Younger, wealthier residents began taking over our once carefully guarded community, and now our virgin coastline has been polluted with what I call 'tract mansions', a new resort development, more unnecessary housing--and the golf course. There are plans for an art museum and a host of other upscale installations.
Oh, but those thoughtful developers, under the watchful eye of our city officials, gave us an exchange--a band of cultivated, pesticide laden native plant life with a pathway along the edge of the cliff so we can still stroll with our dogs--a kind of Disney version of nature.
I liked the jackrabbits, indigenous plantlife growing wild, and lack of traffic myself.
Newer PV residents have no investment in the community, no sense of the history of preservation. They could care less about the land, and are more interested in prestige and amenities than the natural beauty that was supposed to be the legacy of my parents generation--those that fought hard for the preservation of this place.
For those of you claiming this is a snooty place about to get its due--you are only partially right. The newer residents fit that mold a little better than those who established this community. It was built on the backs of people that went to work every day, and were a little less careless with the gifts of nature than the newer, throw-away society that has taken over.
The tax revenues aren't worth what has happened here. We were doing just fine without this--without getting too fancy. The tax revenues we will reap will be used to manage the wear and tear placed on the community by its new users. In my book, that isn't coming out ahead.
The PV land conservancy has managed to hold on to a sliver of land--and that will be all that remains to represent the fight that was once waged to save this beautiful place.
The traffic is already polluting the once meditative peace of Wayfarer's Chapel.
I hope the city officials and residents who were giddy at the thought of rubbing elbows with Donald and others of his ilk are ever-so pleased with themselves. You killed the last bastion of Los Angeles coastal beauty and now we have the Devil in our midst.

This is typical Trump. When he bought Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach he demanded that the county move the international airport because the planes flew over his house. He lost that egotistical fight, which is a very good thing. Someone really needs to get through to him that he's just not that important. No one is.

Trump is a whiney, narcississtic douchebag. Anytime his name isn't in the press for a while, he conjers up something to get it back in it.
The man has more money than God already... much of it taken from contractors he's screwed into building his properties, by filing for bankruptcy protection after they've done the work for him.
And him bellyaching over anything where he doesn't get his way, and jamming up the court system w/ erroneous and frivolous law suits to constantly get his way, just because he has a team of pit bull lawyers on staff and the funds to pay them, is his modus operandi.
I hope the judge fines him heavily for wasting precious court time and for abusing the system just because his vanity is his only priority.
So tired of hearing about the Trumpster and his vanity, and his huge ego, and his agenda anytime he doesn't get his way. He is also suing Philadelphia for discrimination, because they didn't want him or one of his perpetually failing casinos in their town, and crying "discrimination" that he's been shut out of the industry. What a candyass.
Notice how no one ever hears of him actually doing anything good for society? Wonder why that is? Wish he'd go away already. The man is a self-imposed demi-god, hardly worthy of any press attention ever.

This guy is a complete douchebag. He has nothing better to do than pick on a bunch of residents who probably didn't want that wanker and his congregation of pretentious pricks knocking around the balls (they don't have) on a golf course anyway.
This dude seriously needs a hug and someone to tell him about himself and his bad combover.

He did not build the golf course, he and other investors bought it.
There is something called a view ordinance in that city that has been effect since the golf course was dirt. If there were trees on that property that obstructed the view of his neighbors, the law says that they must be trimmed!

When Trump bought the land, it was tied up in the courts; not being used for anything productive, or otherwise, because part of it had slid into the ocean. But he built the no. 1 golf course in California, and it opened with an LPGA tournament where world-class golfers competed. How can this not add to the city's tax base and employment rate? Not to mention the honor of being the home of a world class golf course, and the best in the state?
Wanting to add trees for privacy and aesthetics isn't unreasonable. Neither is wanting to rename a street after himself since the street is adjacent to The Donald Trump Golf Resort, not a major thoroughfare through town. In example, directions? Take Donald Trump Drive and it will lead you directly to the resort entrance. It makes sense to me. The terrace? The area is prone to landslides and even a small or distant tremor could pose a danger to the structure of the terrace and the people on it. The city should not compromise on safety measures. But do other homes on the peninsula have terraces? There must be a way to brace the structure for safety.
After reading LA Times articles addressing the gripes of some Rancho Palos Verdes citizens, and complaints from The Donald, in my honest opinion, this has devolved into an good ol' fashion pissing contest between Trump and the city. It would be so easy to make this a win/win situation, instead of an angry battle based on contrary ego issues.

The politicians running this town have been screwing with Trump from the beginning. They need to knock it off! Trump restored the building to pristine condition according to the rules and laws that apply to an historic landmark. Now that the work is done and paid for, the politicians are stepping in claiming they know best. Trump is bringing jobs, renovations and taxes. These politicians need to cut the crap. These "rules" they speak of were not written by geniuses nor were they written in stone. Maybe it's time to change a few rules and stop playing games.

Is the road that he wants to rename a private or public road? If private, then he should be able to rename. Is the property that he wants to plant trees on private? If so, then the government needs to butt out. Unless the changes he wishes to make impose a public threat, then he should be free to plant any legal substance that he wishes on the property that he bought and pays taxes on.
