Dropped calls have been a nuisance since the dawn of cell phones. But which cellular service provider has the best record in terms of the fewest dropped calls?
In a recent survey, ChangeWave asked 3,800 cell phone owners to estimate the percentage of their calls that were dropped during the past 90 days.
The survey, which was conducted Dec. 9-15, 2008, produced a clear winner: Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has the fewest dropped calls of all.

According to the ChangeWave survey, Verizon customers reported an average of just 2.2% of their calls dropped during the past 90 days.
Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) came in second with an average of 3.4% dropped calls reported, followed by AT&T (NYSE: T) with an average of 3.7%.
Bringing up the rear, T-Mobile customers reported the most drops with 4%.
With the Verizon dropped call rate registering the lowest in the industry, it's no surprise that its overall customer satisfaction rating is the highest in the industry.
As the following chart shows, 49% of Verizon customers said they are very satisfied with their current cellular service provider -- well ahead of its next closest competitor, AT&T.

It must depend on where you live. Living in a medium-sized city we had multiple dropped calls daily with Verizon, though the coverage on trips was excellent with few dead zones. We switched to T Mobile and now rarely have any dropped calls. We do have less coverage outside of urban areas however.

Definitely depends on location. I have T-Mo and never drop calls. Several colleagues have AT&T and barely get a signal at work while I get full signal. All of us have iPhones, so it's not the phone. Very pleased w/T-Mo.

AT&T! "Raising the bar" My butt. I get the worst signal with them. Especially where I need it the most.

Its called "dropped calls" because the calls are dropped. Its not bad English because "bad signal" would not accurately descibe what happens when you are on the phone and the call is lost. I'm not sure why that's a difficult thing to understand.

My Sprint phone was the only provider to work during and in the aftermath of Cat 4/5 Hurricane Charley in 2004. I couldnt reach anyone with a Verizon or AT&T. Talk about great service when you need it the most!!

Sprint was good, except in the customer service area... I was a customer for a couple of years, and then when I was about to renew my contract with them a problem popped up. Trying to resolve it turned into a nightmare of conflicting information and promises. Worst of all they tried to force an early termination fee on me when I had 14 days to cancell without penalty.
I had to contact the FCC to file a complaint and suddenly there wasn't a fee...I even got a few phonecalls of them trying to get me to remain a customer with them.
Just document calls to customer service, names..dates, what was discussed...the whole nine yards..or better yet deal with them by e=mail so you have copies of what was said by them to you!!
If I wasn't good at documenting the problem and how I handled it...I would have been screwed out of hundreds of dollars with Sprint! I warn anyone out there that Sprint sucks!!

AT&T in Houston is the biggest joke. I have never been more unhappy with any type of service in my life...with absolutely no help from customer service. But, of course, I'm stuck with these losers due to the required 2 year contract when they lied about how great a wireless service they would provide. Crooks!

I wonder why you guys "forgot" to rate Alltel? Alltel is, hands down, the best provider. I almost never have a dropped call, and where I live, it is the only provider who has decent coverage.

In Indy, every call from my home, if it lasts long enough, is a dropped call with AT&T.
