US Airways flight number 1549 from Laguardia to Charlotte went down around 3:30 p.m., crashing in the Hudson River near 57th Street in New York City. The plane is floating and rescuers are on the scene; it looks as if most of the 148 passengers and crew are being rescued via life rafts. On the news, US Airways (NYSE: LCC) stock was (surprisingly) up 16 cents to $7.55.
Updates: According to an FAA spokesperson, the plane may have been hit by birds. And reports are that everyone survived the crash (which was in shallow water); passengers didn't even get wet.

Did you see the photo of the folks standing on the wing/in the water? Look at the tip of one wing...see a large woman with a huge bag on her shoulder? Now, I ask you....You're trying to get off that plane, you're standing in the aisle, you've got a life vest on...and this woman is struggling with the bin; she gets it open and when she does, bags tumble out, hitting people, landing in the aisle...or she's bent over in the aisle, on hands and knees almost, yanking the bag out from under the seat where she has it wedged, slinging it around to get on her shoulder....The flight attendants.....or somebody, somewhere....somebody bossy...maybe one of those "non-revving" passengers who works as a flight attendant or pilot, but is in civilian clothes...is shouting. "Take off your shoes! Come this way! Step out! Jump down! DON'T TAKE ANYTHING WITH YOU!
DON'T TAKE ANYTHING WITH YOU!"
Water is entering the plane...You hear prayers, crying, babies; it's cold. So cold. At this point, you are operating on a sort of auto-pilot...Then, when you finally get off, this lady wants to get ON A RAFT with this thing. And YOU and your KIDS, maybe, want to, hope to, are praying to, get on that raft too. You can smell jet fuel. The water's cold. The wind's blowing. And this lady's bag weighs....50 very bulky, very dense, pounds....But God, it's HER STUFF! And it's IMPORTANT!
That woman, and anybody who does this, needs to be fined $10k, banned from commercial aviation for one year, spend 10 days in jail, and be banned from USAirways FOR LIFE.
Did you see the African-American woman -- her hair was wet and she was wearing an uninflated yellow life vest...she had a black handbag over her head and shoulder with the strap across her chest, on TOP of the life vest. Does she really think it would inflate if she needed it to?
Darwin WAS RIGHT.
