Barack Obama's achievements are his own. They do not belong to African-Americans. Ruth Bader Ginsburg's achievements are hers. Her achievements are not a credit to American Jews. Similarly Bernie Madoff's despicable crimes are his. His crimes are a debit of American Jews.

You said if Madoff had been a Baptist his religion wouldn't be mentioned. If Madoff were a Baptist he'd be too freakin dumb to pull this off. The fact that he ripped off his own only makes it worse. His smiling as he walks around -on the loose-

Jewish Americans are no more Jewish than most Irish Americans are Irish. Jewish people that are aware of that were not duped by Madoff. Most Italian Americans were not duped by the likes of John Gotti either. So get over it. The people he duped live in Disney Land. They forgot they live in America. Scumbag Madoff's action disqualify him from being Jewish. He is thrown out of the Jewish community.

Everyone should really be more concerned about his connections and donations to the DEMOCRAT Party!

The painful truth is that there are bigots in this world and hating Jews is a reality. Madoff’s behavior will provide those who hate Jews one more justification. John Thain, former CEO of Merrill Lynch, was clearly a bigger thief than Bernard Madoff. Then there was Richard Grasso, former head of the NYSE, given a deferred compensation pay package worth almost $140 million.

I agree that the confession itself is a scam and that we will find out that he has cancer or similar life threatening disease. No one can maintain this level of chicanery for decades without help.

I think it is a Jewish story because he scammed jews at temple and the country club. If an episcopalian scammed people at St Bartholomew, St John the Divine,a d stole from Protestant charities it would be a Protestant story.

And BTW, as far as the media making it a jewish story, the NYTimes website rejected these comments from me as offensive but a few days later had plenty of anti-catholic comments appended to a story. It is just a matter of which story you are sensitive to. You read these things and you have already been sensitized from the previous things that happened in your life.

And yes, the people who got bilked were just plain dumb. Madoff learned well from PT Barnum.

The point went over everyone's keppie. The inference is that the Jewish community is/was embarrassed by Madoff's actions.

That's a normal reaction no matter what ethnic community that has, or even alleges to have, high moral standards.

I went back and read the Reuters article (see link at top of this article) AFTER I posted my first comment. That leads me to ask if anyone else who posted here did likewise - especially the writer.

I don't understand why all the fuss over an innocuous statement extracted WAY out of context by the writer, who did more harm to his reputation as a writer than did Madoff to his or to that his community.

Madoff aside; the Jews who arrived here near the turn of the century are responsible for the downslide of the American culture. They have
the power and the money to put what is un-American in front of American eyes. Their numbers in the Congress far out-surpass their rightful numbers in the population. Their charities are responsible for arming Israel. And finally, the
establishment of Israel in 1948 by the influence of the American Jews on our Government has been nothing but disadvantageous to American interests
throughout the the free world.

The bottom line is that the vast majority of direct investors who were accepted into Madoff's fund were members of his country club or "inner circle". In other words, Jews. Oddly, these investors did not think it unfair or discriminatory that they had access to a money tree that Catholics and Baptists did not. After all, they were only gaining from the investment savy of a fellow Jew. Did these investors not know that their Jewishness had something to do with their membership in this elite club? I doubt it. Herein lies the paradox. By trusting a Jewish money manager to produce profits that no Catholic or Baptist manager could ever achieve, and accepting that on face value, amounted to the ultimate deception - the idea that Madoff's Jewishness gave him an edge on everyone else. They bought into the lie; with the obvious consequences. Shame on them for their arrogance.

Let's turn over the tables of those temple moneychangers. Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. Gotta have that green. I don't hate Madoff. He's a nice guy. He only did what he was born to do. To scam was his birthright. Probably many of you out there wish you had his money-making skills. He never had to worry about losing his job or whether he could pay his bills. Hell, no. Everybody loved this guy. A well-respected man. If the economy hadn't gone bad, he still would have been in business and nobody would have been the wiser. His life story is going to make a great movie. Here's a nice catch line. "My name is Madoff, I'm Jewish, my greed is great and I want all your money." That works for me. It sure must be fun to sit in a penthouse apartment, eating chateaubriand, caviar and sloshing back Dom Perignon while the masses are running around like cockroaches worrying about job losses. Screw that.
