Analyst upgrades:- Baird upgraded Carlisle (NYSE:CSL) to Outperform from Neutral and lowered their target to $25 from $33 following the company's Q4 results citing attractive valuation and solid execution.
- Citigroup upgraded Talbots (NYSE:TLB) to Hold from Sell on valuation as they believe the company's cash flow is improving and does not expect the company to face bankruptcy in next three years.
- Jefferies upgraded shares of Spectra Energy (NYSE:SE) to Hold from Underperform on valuation following the company's Q4 results and raised their target price to $15 from $11.75.
- Costco (NASDAQ:COST) was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS.
- AU Optronics (NYSE:AUO) and LG Display (NYSE:LPL) were upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Banc of America/Merrill.
- Alpha Natural (NYSE:ANR) was raised to Buy from Hold at Natixis.
Analyst downgrades:
- UBS downgraded Swiss Re (Other OTC:SWCEY) to Neutral from Buy following the company's capital raise and profit warning.
- Friedman Billings downgraded UCBH Holdings (NASDAQ:UCBH) to Market Perform from Outperform as they believe the company does not have enough reserves to cover the majority of losses within its $2B construction portfolio. The firm lowered their target price to $2.50 from $6.
- Barclays downgraded Weight Watchers (NTSE:WTW) to Underweight from Equal Weight and lowered their target to $18 from $25. Barclays' checks indicate weak attendance and the analyst sees risk of lower revenues.
- Pulte Homes (NYSE:PHM) was cut to Underperform from Neutral at Credit Suisse.
- Alliant Energy (NYSE:LNT) was downgraded to Neutral from Outperform at Baird.
- Mettler-Toledo (NYSE:MTD) was lowered at Thomas Weisel to Market Weight from Overweight.
- Wunderlich believes Akamai (NASDAQ:AKAM) has a strong competitive position for Internet media, entertainment and ecommerce trends. Shares were initiated with a Buy rating and $24 target.
- Oppenheimer initiated Leap Wireless (NASDAQ:LEAP) with a Perform rating. The firm believes competition may pressure ARPU and the slowing economy could increase churn in the short-term. However, the firm expects LEAP to be eventually be acquired by MetroPCS.
- Oppenheimer also initiated MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS) with a Perform rating and believes price competition and the economic slowdown pose near-term risks and that the company will eventually pay a premium to acquire Leap Wireless.
- Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) was initiated at RBC Capital with a Sector Perform rating.
- Thomas Weisel assumed ev3 Inc (NASDAQ:EVVV) with an Overweight rating and $8 target.
- Shire Plc (NASDAQ:SHPGY) was started at FTN Midwest with a Buy rating and $55 target.
