Condoleezza Rice signs a three-book deal

More

The publishing industry might be in the toilet, but former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is doing just fine.

The Associated Press reports that the former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has signed a three-book deal with Crown Publishers that guarantees her at least $2.5 million. The first book will be a memoir of her years in the Bush Administration, followed by a book about her family, followed by a young-adult version of her life story.

In a statement, Crown said that "Rice will combine candid narrative and acute analysis to tell the story of her time in the White House and as America's top diplomat, and her role in protecting American security and shaping foreign policy during the extraordinary period from 2001-2009."

Maybe I'm just in a liberal part of the country, but I can't think of anyone I know who is a big enough fan of former President George W. Bush's foreign policy to want to buy a book about Condoleezza rice -- or give their daughter the inspirational autobiography of a woman who is generally regarded as having been loyal to a fault in her support of policies that most Americans now regard as ill-advised.

According to the Associated Press, Ms. Rice is "regarded among publishers as more likable and less ideological than Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and other administration officials."
