We've all been wondering what President Bush would do after leaving office with the lowest approval ratings in history and now we have our answer: He's writing a book."I want people to understand the environment in which I was making decisions. I want people to get a sense of how decisions were made and I want people to understand the options that were placed before me," he told the Associated Press.
The book is titled Decision Points and will be released by Crown in 2010. The Wall Street Journal reports (subscription required) that "Instead of telling his life story, Bush will concentrate on about a dozen personal and presidential choices, from giving up drinking to picking Dick Cheney as his vice president to sending troops to Iraq. He will also write about his relationship with family members, including his father, the first President Bush, his religious faith and his highly criticized response to Hurricane Katrina."
Decision Points is unique in that not only is it the first book that President Bush has ever written but it is also the first book he has ever read.Political leanings aside, it's hard to imagine who would buy this book. Bush's book about the art of decision-making seems destined for the bargain bin along with such infamous titles as "Edward Smith's Big Book of Iceberg Avoidance."

Dear Zac,
I'm sorry. I never knew that you were once the President of the United States of America. I must've some how missed it during history class. Otherwise, who are you to question any of his decisions without walking a mile in his shoes, or knowing what he knows. Do you honestly believe that the American public knows everything about every situation out there? You don't? Then you must think that he made all those 'bad' decisions because he's an evil, baby eating monster.
You're beloved Obama is finding out that being President is a lot more then promises, and sound goods.
However, I do agree with you that the majority of people will not buy or read this book. Mostly because the American public does not want to be informed. It's much easier to criticize with zero knowlage.
Please feel free to judge the man who ran our entire country after you have done the same.

Is English a second language for you or is this some sort of veiled social commentary that I'm not understanding?

Yes, I'm sorry I don't agree with you Zac.
I never liked George Bush, but one cannot dismiss the difficulty of the environment in which he had to make his decisions. Big dot-com bubble had just burst, biggest terrorist attack ever on our soil took place, huge corporate scandals are taking place. What would YOU do as president? Where would you start? What would be going through your mind? You're commander-in-chief, buddy, I want to know what you're thinking.
He may not have been all that successful as president, but I think we as a people need to grow up and at least try to understand the man. This book should give us that chance.

Zac,
You're, what, in your Junior year of college now, right? People read your crap all the time and you have zero experience. Why would you bash anyone for reading anything written by someone more accomplished than yourself, whether you agree with that person or not?
I'm not sure what you aspire to be after you graduate from college, but whatever it may be, and especially if it has anything to do with journalism, I suggest you learn how to take in an alternate point of view and actually analyze it based on facts. In a few more years, you might have some credible experience to help you out in that analysis, too.
Bush's book may turn out to be a piece of crap, or it may have valuable lessons in it for everyone. There is an old saying that good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. By that measure, Bush has a lot of experience. Perhaps he'll be forthcoming about it in his book. Until it is published, though, we cannot know.
BTW, after you graduate, you might want to get out of Mass. for a while and challenge yourself to be around people with an opposing point of view.
Best,
Chris

"Decision Points is unique in that not only is it the first book that President Bush has ever written but it is also the first book he has ever read." An easy joke, of course, but an excellent one. :)
I predict this will be the poorest performing "memoir" of a former president of all time. No one cared what he had to say in his waning days as president. No one will care what he has to say in a few years.

Are you kidding me? How could anyone dismiss the fact that the decisions GWB made have backfired for pretty much everything? He pushed to raise the home ownership of America, look at where we are now. He invaded Iraq without anyone but UK's full support and alienated every other NATO nations, who were 100% behind the invasion of Afghanistan.
While his decisions were difficult, the results were poor. Doesn't that justify he has poor decision making skills or at least lack the leadership to create an environment to make the execution of tasks successful.
Bush's book should title "how to alienate people and f@cked up the country you love by seeing everything in black and white"
