Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is taking a larger stab with its apparel lines than in the past and has joined up with teen sensation Miley Cyrus for a new value-priced clothing line -- naturally. Cyrus, star of Disney's Hannah Montana, has hooked up with designer Max Azria for the new line.The new junior clothing selection will include girls' tops, pants, t-shirts and shows -- all priced at under $20. Wal-Mart shoppers will see the new items in all Wal-Mart stores and at www.walmart.com sometime in August. If history holds, those same clothes will be falling apart from a few washing cycles sometime in December. Sorry, couldn't resist there. Quite a few relatives have told me about clothes from Wal-Mart literally falling apart after three months or so.
The new clothing line will bear the name of both Miley Cyrus and Max Azria, who has dressed the teen pop diva for several recent red carpet events. Will the addition of Miley Cyrus-branded clothing and shoes send tween girls into Wal-Mart stores by the horde? I doubt it, but it will bump up Wal-Mart's apparel section sales for the last two quarters of 2009, that's for sure. One thing it can't miss -- get those items into stores before the back-to-school shopping season begins in early August. Better yet -- try to hit a mid-July timeframe.

Another few "accidental" and "unauthorized" shots of Hannah's blossoming montanas might just boost sales -- as the customary ritual slow-strip of yet another American teen idol continues ...

Not to stretch a lame joke too far, but if those WalMart clothes really fall apart at the drop of a hat, the kids at home can have their own "Miley Cyrus Equipment Malfunction" moment and become muy popular for just the initial (Low-Low!) purchase price ... !
