Here is the trailer for the movie:
While teaching the average investor how to adapt to this grueling market environment, Covel describes how the credit bubble was created – from Wall Street to the average Joe. In order to prepare for the future we must better understand the past. It is not only useful, but should be required to listen to the opinions expressed by many prominent economists, successful hedge fund managers and Nobel prize winners featured in this film.
From the likes of Peter Borish, Jim Rogers, and Barry Ritholtz, viewers learn and can for once truly comprehend the harsh reality of investing. We have been fed get-rich-quick schemes and misinformation on the stock and real estate markets from mass media and our own government. Business entertainers such as Jim Cramer and Maria Bartiromo offer little more than noise; while Ben Bernanke is leading the Fed to failure. The coveted American dream has failed us. These notions are just some of the blood this film draws...
Covel goes on to show how as a herd-like culture, we profited from the use of excess leverage and debt that created a multi-year run-up and only now are we suffering the consequences. Time after time, we have forgotten the lessons learned from the 1929, 1987, and dot com crashes and a lack of regulation from those in charge of our funds mixed with a lack of education and experience from middle class citizens has been a recipe for disaster.
The debate over investments includes hedge funds, mutual funds, social security and even poker and the lottery, where the facts are astonishing and will make you think twice when trusting another financial advisor, commentator or banker. Here are some more key concepts:
- Buy and hold is not your only choice.
- Risk management and understanding speculation and marketing is key.
- Behavioral psychology & greed are the most important market elements.
- Every investor should learn how and why to cut their losses quickly.
...and a little Q & A with Michael Covel himself!
What inspired you to make this film?
Covel: I have been fortunate to learn about markets and money from some of the best traders around. I wanted to share their wisdom with others and a documentary film seemed like a great way to reach people. Plus I am very passionate that the government has no answer to the current economic mess and no one is speaking that truth as bluntly as it needed to be said!
Who is it for?
Covel: The film is for everyone. Whether twenty-somethings or sixty-somethings, feedback so far has been one of "I did not expect that." "Wow, is that how it really is." "I need to change what I am doing!" The film is a universal and timeless message.
Do you think we will ever learn from these mistakes or are we condemned to repeat them?
Covel: Sadly, I believe the majority are condemned to repeat mistakes with their money, but if you want to change your personal situation for you and your family, you can. There is most definitely hope. You don't have to be broke. Turn the TV off and stop listening to politicians and you are half way to financial independence.
The only safe investment I would buy and hold is this movie. But don't trust me, I work for the media.
