The "Tiber" field discovered by BP in deep water about 250 miles off the coast of Houston is probably the deepest drill on record, more than 6.5 miles. deep. Analysts estimate that the field holds about 3 billion barrels of oil, of which 1 billion barrels are recoverable with today's technology.
BP PLC (NYSE: BP) also owns another big oil field called "Kaskida" in the Gulf of Mexico. Together these two fields could boost BP's oil production from 400,000 barrels per day to 650,000 bpd.
The Gulf of Mexico is promising to be a rich source of oil for U.S. production also. The big U.S. player in the Gulf is Chevron Corp (NYSE: CVX), which said that it had discovered a part of the Lower Tertiary that could hold 3 billion to 15 billion barrels of oil.
Obviously, this new find will add to the value of the BP company.
Meanwhile, here in the U.S., the Obama administration has a new program that reimburses companies up to 30% of costs to develop renewable energy sources.
Do you believe that we will solve our energy problems?

Anybody remember the "Cash for Clunkers" that just ended?..that took almost 500 thousand gas guzzling cars off the road for vehicles that got better gas milage.Wondering how much oil that has put back in the gas pumps.I've hear a little,I've heard that it could make a difference. With the economy and all people are driving less, taking less vacations, and some even taking advantage of mass transit..And all we as comsumers see is prioces going up..And China buying more oil..are we subsidizing china?Makes me stop and wonder what we do'nt know.

I suppose now we'll have to go to war with Great Britain in the almighty quest for black heroin . We need to ween our selves off the dependancy of oil. Period! The sooner the better, why do we continue to bow down to foreign powers when we have the technology to choose our own destiny. The world used to depend on us, now we depend on countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, China, Venezuela. Someone needs to slap some sense into this country. I can't tell how mad it makes me when I call a company for customer support only to end up speaking to someone in Pakistan or the Philippines when unemployment is the highest it's been in 30 years. CEO's raping American companies and retiring with million$.

Super! Our oil worries are over! I assume BP, the rich oil giant that it is, will be able to provide self-financing for the project--at nearly $1 billion to deliver a deep drill platform, and $500,000 a day to run. So they will be able to start, in three or four years to bring in oil, at maybe $70-$100 or more a barrel cost, and at a rate of maybe 100,000 barrels a day, at peak, which should make an almost perceptable addition to our demand of 20 million barrels a day. And over a field life-span of 30 years we'll get a million barrels of oil; which is, of course 1/20 of a single year's usage currently. Wow, and to think I was worried...

Let's call this whole Sham, what it is, a "Conspiracy" in the highest degree. Since the passing of the "Federal Reserve act" in 1913, the "SUPER Rich" : Rothchilds,Goldman Sachs, Kuhn Loeb,Rockefellas,& a few others, literally control the whole world. There is no such thing as "Supply& Demand", it is all manipulated by these "Robber Barons". When they are able to print unlimited amounts of "fIAT" MONEY, they can, & have bought up everything, including our Congress, & Courts. We need to bring back the "Original 13th Amendment, which says, that no one in our "Elected" Gov't {Corporation in Reality} can have a "Title of Nobility". These attorney's in congress write all of these "Laws" {Statutes} for us, which don't apply to them. It's called "TREASON".

Well, I think that George W. Bush is a smart man. There was alot of information that was talked about regarding Iraq war and Oil. However, people spoke in the negative. They talked of how it was over Oil and how they raised the prices, etc. If I was to venture a guess, I would say it was over many homeland issues and the commodities question for Bush Administration was Could we afford to challenge our imports of oil (Middle East). Guess Georgy Boy has alot of information that would help him support his stance that America, the USA should rely on themselves a little more and stop allowing the Middle East and Terrorists to Bully the USA! Thinking of you fondly, Michelle

Maybe the reporter of the new found oil strkes in the Gulf of Mexico says there is a shortage of oil, I for one think he is nuts. I believe the media is controled mostly by the majority party and they will try to make you think there is a shortage and these new finds of oil won't do us any good for 5 years. Bah Humbug. The only time there is a false shortage is when the crude oil market starts to rise and the hidden investors throw money at the oil market causing us to spend more money at the pump. This oil thing in my opinion is nothing more than a hoax!!

By allowing YOUR President to stop all new offshore oil drilling in the United States, you have doomed us all to higher gas prices. The speculators trade oil futures back and forth raising the price each time they trade it. When the oil companies buy it they pay that inflated price and refine it mark it up and sell it to us. Oil companies are only too happy to pay the higher price because they can make more money even at the same markup. Last year we caused the gas prices to drop almost two dollars in one month with the "DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, PAY LESS" campaign even though Obama and his corrupt advisers said it wouldn't have an effect for ten years...remember?? If you drill and drill and fill the market with U.S. oil it WILL keep the price down. If you listen to the liberals and do not drill and your wish for $4.00 per gallon of gasoline will come true. Put the blame where it is due, the Wall Street Speculators and their allies, the liberal Democrats. On another issue, do you realize that we have had virtually unlimited funds allocated and available for alternative energy sources available since the 1970's, but nobody has bothered to use them...surprise! Is anybody rushing to build nuclear power plants? Nuclear energy has zero emissions and is carbon nuetral but this current administration is ignoring it...why? They want to shove this cap and trade con down our throats as it will allow them to tax virtually everything. All you have to do to stop these charlatains is to email or call your senators and congressman or congresswoman and tell them we truly need offshore drilling, plant trees, and build safe nuclear power plants. If we work together we can get it done. And no, I do not work for an oil company nor do I work for nuclear energy in any way. This isn't my first rodeo and I love this country and the way of life it has given me. I just want to continue it and I think that you do too.

I think it is SOOOOO funny how everyone wants to keep blaming OBAMA!!! BUSH got us in this shit!! I guess ya'll stupid asses forgot about that dumbass. People act like he can change things in a couple of months! If you idiots listened to him, he said, THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY AND IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME!!!!!!! I'm sick of people making it seem like things can be changed overnight. The same way something as small as a temper can't be changed overnight, a worldwide crisis that our PREVIOUS President got us in over a 8 year span CANNOT be cleared up in 8 months of being in office. So, shut up and be realistic. America is always so quick to bash the innocent person. UGH! As for the oil, the prices should come down and i think they will. No one ever thought we'd see $2 gas prices again and they're here.

Has the writer of this article been reading the news over the last couple of years??? What oil shortage? There is no oil shortage. Quite the contrary, their is an oil surplus which has lead to production cut backs again and again to artificially drive up the price of oil. I am sure BP and OPEC have no issues with a 5 year plan to pump that oil, it would just hurt their profits and would necesitate more production cut backs to keep the prices artificicially high at the expense of the consumer.
