Palin publisher delays e-Book to drive hardcover sales

HarperCollins has elected to push up the publication of Sarah Palin's memoir to November 17 -- it had originally been planned for the spring, but now you'll have time to get it for the holidays.

The book, which is titled Going Rogue: An American Life, is highly anticipated because it's special on two counts. It's the first book Sarah Palin has ever written and perhaps the first book she's ever read. It's currently the number six best-selling book on Amazon.com (Glenn Beck is number two, so lock your doors).

Of course, the former Governor isn't writing the book without help. The Baltimore Sun reports that "as a co-author, she has chosen an editor with World Magazine, a Christian publication that offers a conservative take on issues and events. Lynn Vincent has written about prayer in schools, gay marriage and, mostly, abortion for World. She is also co-author of the book Donkey Cons: Sex, Crime and Corruption in the Democratic Party."

To help drive hardcover sales and cut down on lower-profit e-book sales, HarperCollins is delaying the e-release of the book until December 26 -- right after Christmas. HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray told The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) that "This is the first time we're trying this, and we'll see what we learn. The publishing plan is focused on maximizing velocity of the hardcover before Christmas, at a time when hardcover sales in the industry are down 15%."

There could be another motive for moving up the book's publication: Who knows whether anyone will still care about Sarah Palin by spring?
