Some big names set new 52-week highs Tuesday: WAG, ACS, WYE ...


new 52 week highsAll three of the major indexes finished Tuesday in the red, but there were several big names that moved up to new 52-week highs in Tuesday's trading.

Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG): The drugstore giant had a really good day on Wall Street after posting better than expected earnings in the morning before the market opened. The company posted earnings of 44 cents per share versus analyst estimates of 39 cents. The stock set a new 52-week high of $38.44 and closed the day up 9.2% at $37.35.

Wyeth (NYSE: WYE): The drug maker hit a new 52-week high of $48.75, and closed the day up 1.16% at $48.65. It was announced that China's Ministry of Commerce had approved a deal that would allow Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) to acquire Wyeth. The deal still needs approval in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

Affiliated Computers Services (NASDAQ: ACS): ACS traded as high as $56.04, setting a new 52-week high for the stock before closing the day up 2.71% at $55.32. ACS was in the news Monday when it was announced that Xerox (NASDAQ: XRX) had agreed to acquire the company for $6.4 billion. In related action, Xerox traded up 3.13% on the day to $7.92.

Sina Corp. (NASDAQ: SINA): The Chinese based online media company had a good day on Wall Street, setting a new 52-week high of $38.70, and closed the session up 6.04% at $38.25. The company announced that it was pulling out of plans to acquire Focus Media Holding (NASDAQ: FMCN) due to a delay in approval by China's Ministry of Commerce.

Other notable names that set new 52-week highs on Tuesday were Staples Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS), Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX), Whole Foods Market Inc. (NASDAQ: WFMI) and American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE: AEO).
