Target's Black Friday prices are leaked

More

Black Friday, as the day after Thanksgiving has come to be known, is the day when most retailers get themselves back into the black. It is also a bargain-hunter's delight. In the age of Internet, several websites emerged dedicated to helping shoppers decide in front of which store to pitch their tents. One of those sites, GottADeal.com, has reportedly landed Target's (TGT) Black Friday ad. Target, it appears, is taking a rather aggressive approach to the upcoming Holiday shopping season.

According to the website, the retailer will offer a 32-inch Westinghouse LCD HDTV for $246, which GottADeal.com's founder Brad Olson calls the "lowest price that we've ever seen for that model." The ad also touts $3 toasters and coffeemakers, and 50% discount on kids' clothes and toys.

Other items in the ad include a 40-inch LCD HDTV for $449 with a $10 gift card, GPS devices for $97, a portable DVD player for $88, $39 for a Panasonic camcorder. Also, shoppers will receive a $10 card when they spend more than $100 from 5 AM to noon on Black Friday, according to the ad.

Some of these prices are good only for Black Friday, while some will run through the following day. For what it's worth, Target issued a statement, noting that it "is unable to confirm the accuracy of any [Black Friday] two-day ads or pricing information that is posted online." With the holiday-shopping season often accounting for 50% or more of retailers' annual profits and sales, can you blame Target for pricing their items this low?

Let the shopper in me speak first. These prices are pretty good and are going to draw a lot of people out of the woodwork to purchase their Christmas presents. A TomTom GPS for less than $100 is very nice, and I know that the dual-screen portable RCA DVD would fit nicely in the FightBus. Plenty of people are going to spend plenty of money on gifts at Target stores on Black Friday.

Now, let the financial analyst in me take over. Plenty of people are going to spend plenty of money on gifts at the retailer stores on Black Friday, which could eventually lead the stock higher. Target shares have undergone a rather nice rally that started during the first week of March, with the stock advancing along the support of its 10-week moving average throughout this time. Watch for these prices to help TGT rally after the holiday shopping season. Of course, what if sales don't go as well as the retailer hopes? Let's just say any underlying support will be severely tested.
