The markets just wanted to close higher today. A slight gain in the weekly jobless claims had no real impact and a really poor 30-Year Treasury auction that just hints at the demand for rates to rise had only a temporary effect against the stock market. Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:
Dow 10,406.66 +69.61 (0.67%)
S&P 500 1,102.35 +6.40 (0.58%)
Nasdaq 2,190.86 +7.13 (0.33%)

Key Short Interest Changes
AOL (AOL) had a rough first day as an official stock outside of its when-issued status that it has seen for the last two weeks. Analysts were cautious in fresh calls. Shares were down 1.8% at $23.24 late in the trading day before the close.
Sunesis Pharmaceuticals (SNSS) went ballistic again today, despite the surge being on two day old news of a positive leukemia treatment. Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) was running simply on buyout rumors. This is not the first time the rumor mill has been active. Shares were up 8% at $11.37 late in the trading day.
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) was down today as it was one of the featured low priced stocks with high rising short interest. Shares were down 2% at $3.33 right before the closing bell.
Boston Scientific (BSX) rose today after S&P raised its rating to investment grade after a bond issue was filed. Shares were up 2.7% at $8.71 late in the trading day.
Ciena (CIEN) opened low, went lower, and continued lower still after the company missed its earnings expectations. Shares were down 11.6% at $11.68 late in the trading day.
