Starbucks Recalls Glass Water Bottles

I couldn't make this stuff up, and I'm not sure that many people could have or would have. That said, Starbucks (SBUX) announced a recall of its glass water bottles on Thursday.

The glass bottles were not recalled because of some harmful substance that started to seep into the water from the glass, or because the water in the glass bottles was contaminated. No folks, the glass bottles were recalled because (wait for it) the glass bottles could shatter, causing lacerations to the hands.

It's glass ladies and gentlemen -- it can break. And broken glass can obviously cause cuts. I do believe we were taught this during childhood: stay away from broken glass, it could cut you.

Now, I will give a bit of latitude here. The release does note that some incidents of breakage happening when the stopper was taken out of the bottle. That isn't normal and needs to be remedied. That said, what would have happened to Coca-Cola way back if the company pulled its iconic glass bottles because they could break and cause cuts? That means the curved Coke bottle may never have come to pass.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go remove all the glass from my house so I don't cut my hands.
