General Motors has hired former CEO Fritz Henderson to serve as an adviser to the company. He'll be paid $59,090 per month, or $709,080 annualized. Is there anywhere, other than perhaps The Surreal Life: Recession Edition, where Henderson could earn that much money?
In exchange for his $59,090, Mr. Henderson will work about 20 hours per month, according to the SEC filing announcing the hiring: $2,954.50 per hour.
"This is an agreement to provide consulting to the company on international operations, an area where Fritz has unrivaled expertise," GM spokesman Chris Preuss told Bloomberg.
Whether $2,954.50 per hour is too much for an international operations consultant is a matter of opinion. But this deal is certainly evidence of just how greedy and self-absorbed Fritz Henderson is. Over the course of his career, Henderson netted millions in compensation and, as CFO, presided over the reckless financial management (including excessive dividends when the company was running on fumes) that helped lead the company into bankruptcy.
Now shareholders have been wiped out, taxpayers are on the hook for billions, and Henderson still needs almost $3,000 an hour to help clean up the mess.

Are you kidding me. I no where consider myself good at business decisions, but come on people. Why would you bring in the very greedy person that became rich and ran you into the ground in the first place! And Obama keeps giving them money to do this. Who is more stupid here. Unfortunately it seems to be us the taxpayers! How can we stop this? Shame on these rich executives that they just keep on taking and taking! The only thing that keeps me going is that these guys will eventually get what they deserve and despite all their money I bet they are no happier than me and my family! Thanks for reading.

Disgusting. Fritz Henderson should be ashamed of himself. What idiots in the corporation even approved this deal?
GM deserves to go out of business. They have not made cars that people wanted to buy and allowed the labor unions to ruin them financially. GM lobbyists in Washington have preserved the status quo, when they could have been spending money on developing hybrids and electric cars years ago. I will NEVER buy another GM car again.

I have to wonder how anyone with half a brain can continue to read about the compensation of G.M,s top mis-managers and blame the U.A.W for the company,s demise.

This is outrageous. The guy has millions already, he should just go off and fish in Florida (if he isn't already). No way on earth would I ever buy a GM product.

Gotta have a car guy in the mix. Ed Whittacre is a really smart guy, but he needs someone to tell him what makes sense in a manufacturing environment. What they are paying Henderson isn't chump change, but it is by no means exorbitant compared to what those hose-heads at Bain or the other consulting firms get paid to noodle out stuff they have no experience with. Talk about OJT...
What isn't mentioned in the article is what the term of the contract is for. And it certainly doesn't mention that he is being paid far less than what he was making at the helm of GM.
GM made a lot of dumb mistakes over time, not the least of which was mis-reading the market. Bill Ford was smart in recognizing his limits as a manager and getting someone else to be his CEO. Quality has been and will continue to be an issue for the auto companies, and until they can figure out a way to excite the people in California (seriously; everyone here owns an Asian-made auto) about their products, you won't see significant positive changes in their market share.

First, I thought we had an auto czar watching these morons.
Second, they did this just when people were starting to believe they had found their way.
Third, If they had listened to Demming way back when they would be making quality cars today just like the Japanese.
Who is demming?

Where was the outrage when Michelle Obama was paid over 125 or 165 thousand per year working less then 20 hours a week or 3 days a week at a hospital? A position that has never been filled since she left? She made more than Mr. Obama did as a Senator.

Hi Pamela..
Well, let's do some math. That is four times as much work for 1/5 as much money, so Fritz is being paid 20 times as much.
And the hospital you mention was not being supported by the fed. Gov't. So, your attempt to politicize this regarding the First lady (of all public figures...) has failed.

Everyone knows the reason why the The US keeps spending right? Its called credit. The more debt they can create the more "money" they "earn" which is owed by the American people. Remeber - as long as someone owes you money you can never go broke. So thats why they keep churning out the cash because inflation is also a hidden tax on the people, but the money comes in the same. Do away with the FED and the IRS - neither one of them is actually constitutional. State taxes should pay for us Washington should get nothing except to GOVERN while we slowly reform to the gold standard again.

Just another example of how out of touch GM continues to be! Let's see now, they've hired the guy who was in charge when they went down the tubes at an exorbitant rate to help them climb back to prosperity? Isn't that sort of like hiring Tiger Woods as a consultant on marriage fidelity?
