$59,090 per Month for 20 Hours of Fritz Henderson

General Motors has hired former CEO Fritz Henderson to serve as an adviser to the company. He'll be paid $59,090 per month, or $709,080 annualized. Is there anywhere, other than perhaps The Surreal Life: Recession Edition, where Henderson could earn that much money?

In exchange for his $59,090, Mr. Henderson will work about 20 hours per month, according to the SEC filing announcing the hiring: $2,954.50 per hour.

"This is an agreement to provide consulting to the company on international operations, an area where Fritz has unrivaled expertise," GM spokesman Chris Preuss told Bloomberg.

Whether $2,954.50 per hour is too much for an international operations consultant is a matter of opinion. But this deal is certainly evidence of just how greedy and self-absorbed Fritz Henderson is. Over the course of his career, Henderson netted millions in compensation and, as CFO, presided over the reckless financial management (including excessive dividends when the company was running on fumes) that helped lead the company into bankruptcy.

Now shareholders have been wiped out, taxpayers are on the hook for billions, and Henderson still needs almost $3,000 an hour to help clean up the mess.
