Anyone got an extra $41,300 lying around? If so, perhaps you could also purchase Nintendo's (NTDOY) Stadium Events.
Apparently this fellow from Kansas was inspired to dig through his game collection after reading a story about a game selling for $13,000 on eBay (EBAY). Well, that turned out to be some lucrative digging.
I was never one who was inspired to collect unopened video games. I mean, my parents purchased them for me to play. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so eager to waste my time, as this intrepid digger found a rare copy of Bandai's Stadium Events, still shrink-wrapped in its package with the price tag attached. What originally cost $29.99 was sold on eBay for $41,300! Yes, $41,300 -- let that soak in for a moment.
Really, I can't imagine paying more for an old video game than for my car. I enjoy playing video games, but I wouldn't spend $70+ for Guitar Hero or some other modern game -- why would I spend more than oh, let's say $5 for a game that you won't take out of the package? Perhaps it was Warren Buffett who just wanted to spend some quality time with his old NES, playing a little Stadium Events. Otherwise, I can't imagine any person justifying spending that much money for a video game. It is a video game, a bland video game, a game that wasn't popular when it was new. The mystique lies in the fact that so few of the games were created.
Sorry folks, but I would rather own a 2010 Audi Q5 or a 2010 Land Rover LR2 than an in-the-box Stadium Events. I sure would rather have a trophy that I can put in my driveway rather than a trophy box that I can sit on my mantle and tell my kids to keep away from.
Sorry gamers, this is money wasted ... not money well spent.

A very rare collectible that will probably appreciate in value or a car that goes down in value every hour that it sets in your drive.
An investment or a purchase that loses at least $1500.00 the minute you buy it. Gee, you do have it all figured out. Do you work for a Big Bank by chance?
