Apple, Inc. (AAPL) launched its fourth generation iPhone this past weekend, and as was the case in the past, iPhone fanatics lined up across the country to get their hands on the new iPhone, leading to large sales volumes for the first three days the new smart phone has been on the market.Everyone knew that the iPhone 4 would have a good opening weekend, but not even the most optimistic forecasts predicted that the company would sell 1.7 million units.
Last week, Apple reported that 600,000 pre-orders for the new phones.
Each time Apple has released a version of the iPhone demand has well outweighed supply, and this was the case once again this weekend. Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs stated that the iPhone 4 release was the most successful product launch in the company's history, and apologized to everyone out there who was unable to pick up a new phone over the weekend. Stores across the country were turning away customers that had waited hours in line for their chance to get the new phone the day it became available.
To put it into perspective, you need to consider how much demand has risen for each generation iPhone. It took Apple 72 days to sell a million units of the original iPhone back in 2007, and its past 2 iPhones, the 3G and the 3GS each sold right at 1 million during their opening weekends.
One problem that customers have already started to report is a problem with the phone's antenna, reportedly completely losing signal depending on what angle they were holding their phone. Apple responded that users should be careful not to cover the antenna with their hands. The problem is presumed to be software related, and that a fix could be coming out today.
Apple is doing their best to keep up with demand, but it will definitely be a while before you can be 100% certain of finding the new phone at your local store. If you want to get your hands on a new white iPhone, you wait is going to be even longer. Unless you are willing to settle for a black iPhone, you could be waiting until the end of July for your new iPhone. Apple released a statement that the white iPhones were "more challenging to manufacture than expected."
In addition to its launch in the United States, the phone also launched in France, Japan, Germany and the U.K., and will be on sale in 88 countries by September.
Were you one of the 1.7 million people to pick up the new iPhone this weekend? If you were lucky enough to get the new phone, let us know your thoughts on the device, and in particular if you have been having problems with the phone's antenna.

I bought the iphone 4 on June 15th & ATT mailed it to me last Thurs. I absolutely love the phone as I had the original iphone from 3 years ago(yes I paid $599 for it though the WOW factor was worth it).
This phone has an edge to it(no pun intended) and it takes a bit to get used to the feel but the clarity...speed...camera and video are amazing.
It's definitely worth it plus I don't mind ATT...but I don't live in NYC(and don't want to..thank you).

hmm, this is the great news for Apple iphone 4 the beginning, now there are seems more arguments on its signal-loss problems influence much more.
Have to say iPhone is different from iPad, ipad is a new products, iPhone, as many fans see as upgrading. The iPad is hot than iphone and more continuous demand. True and as such iPad will get a bit of a pass on any bugs. “After all it is the first one.” But the iPhone, that’s mature. The market is much less tolerant of screw-ups on a product that’s been on the market for a while.
iPad is the totally freshman, you can get its so many new column or sites for it, such as iFunia iPad column: http://www.ifunia.com/ipad-column/index.html
