It appears that U.S.-based drug makers and cigarette companies caught the attention of traders Tuesday -- at least, that's what they're searching for.
If you want to know what stocks traders are interested in right now at this very second, you need look no further than what's hot in Google.
Here's what's hot Friday:
Allergan (AGN) shares jumped higher today on rumors that Sanofi-Aventis' (SNY) CEO told his board of directors that the company is in preliminary negotiations to acquire a U.S.-based drug manufacturer for $20 billion. Shareholders seem confident the U.S.-based company spoken of is Allergan.
Biogen (BIIB) jumped higher in early trading based on the same Sanofi acquisition news, but investors have not pushed Biogen shares up quite as high as they have Allergan shares.
BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ) may be the target of a leveraged buyout. Green Equity Investors disclosed yesterday that the company has taken a 10% stake in the company and is considering taking the company private.
Cigarette maker Vector Group (VGR) is one of the beneficiaries of a Supreme Court ruling rejecting an attempt made by the federal government to force tobacco companies to pay billions of dollars in damages that would fund smoking cessation programs and other remedies. The case was originally filed by the Clinton administration in 1999.
Disclosure: Hansen does not own shares of the stocks discussed above. Positions can change without notice.
