It's a common refrain: "I'll get an iPhone when it goes on the Verizon (VZ) platform." And Internet traffic proves it. According to searches on Google News, "Verizon iPhone" is the most searched query about Verizon.
Despite this, Verizon continues to focus on Google's (GOOG) Android operating system and is in the process of launching the Droid X (which should hit the market in about a week).
In fact, the company recently put out full-page ads in the New York Times that takes shots at Apple's (AAPL) new iPhone 4. The tag line (or punchline) is: "And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls."
If anything, Apple's antenna issue has been a black-eye. This alleged next-generation technology -- the antenna is melded into the exterior of the device -- was supposed to be a big selling point for the device. Now, it's the butt of jokes and even class-action lawsuits.
Yet, it appears that the iPhone 4 will be a blockbuster. What's more, Apple claims to have a software fix for the antenna problem.
So does this anti-iPhone ad mean that Verizon will not make a deal with Apple? It's hard to tell. Mobile is a high-stakes game and Verizon's customers desperately want the iPhone. Hey, Google searches don't lie, right?

Apple might be cooking up a do-over with its TV set-top box using a key ingredient: the iOS platform powering the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. It might just work.
