Apple (AAPL) is going to have a big day Wednesday, which could include announcing a new Apple TV with Netflix (NFLX) support, and the fourth generation of the iPod Touch.According to a report on Bloomberg, Apple will be announcing the new Apple TV with streaming Netflix videos today at its music-themed press conference.
Apple TV has been around for a little over three years, but so far has not been able to penetrate the market with much success, a main reason being the device's limited media options. Adding streaming videos from Netflix to the device could go a long way in changing people's perception of the device.
Netflix has already found great success in streaming videos to a wide range of devices, such as the XBox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Roku, so it makes perfect sense to expect to see it on the new Apple TV.
While no official announcement has been made yet, it seems to be a given at this point that the new Apple TV will have streaming Netflix videos. The real question is whether or not the new Apple TV will have Netflix already built into the device, or if it will be available as an app through Apple's iTunes.
In addition to streaming Netflix videos, Apple is also expected to announce 99-cent rentals of TV shows from Fox (NWS) and ABC (DIS).
Another way that Apple is hoping to build excitement over the new device is by offering it at a much lower price than previous models. Apple TV is currently selling for around $230, but the new model is expected to be offered for just $99.
Apple is also expected to announce a new iPod Touch today. The fourth-generation iPod Touch is expected to boast a higher resolution, a slightly different shape, a rear camera, and could even officially take on a new name. Instead of being the iPod Touch, insiders have speculated that the device will start to be branded as simply an iTouch.
The conference will get under way Wednesday at 1:00 PM Eastern, and if you want to follow the action live, be sure to visit Engadget's live blog of the event.
