Folks have been flocking to the key gold ETFs via SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX), iShares COMEX Gold Trust (IAU) and even the ETFS Physical Swiss Gold Shares (SGOL). In fact, the SPDR Gold Trust would be one of the top five or six central government banks in the world if measured solely in gold holdings.

Anytime you get a hot market, as we can see now with gold, you can bet more investment vehicles pop up to capitalize on the fad. Enter leveraged gold ETFs and ETNs, which add another layer to playing the gold market right now.

Continue reading Out-of-Control Gold Meets Leveraged ETN and ETF Products

Out-of-Control Gold Meets Leveraged ETN and ETF Products originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 13:00:00 EST. A rising stock market and higher oil tends to help. Many companies are raising guidance or are calming fears that margin compression is escalating and that orders are dropping.

We have taken a look at some of the solar ETF products on the market that offer the best alternatives on investing, although there are also some broader ETF products via alternative energy and clean energy ETFs, which of course include heavy weightings in solar stocks. Guggenheim Solar ETF (TAN) and the Market Vectors Solar Energy ETF (KWT) are key solar ETFs in the mix. We have also loosely covered solar via broader alternative energy ETFs of PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy (PBW), Market Vectors Global Alternative Energy ETF (GEX), and the iShares S&P Global Clean Energy Index (ICLN). As First Solar Inc. (FSLR) is the largest solar stock out there, we have tried to show how it relates into each because the weighting and balancing of each fund differs.

Continue reading Solar ETF Funds Are Shining Bright

Solar ETF Funds Are Shining Bright originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 06:00:00 EST. That's because Canada's financial system is stable, it is rich with natural resources, and it can keep plugging along even if consumers don't open up their wallets again anytime soon. That means Canadian stocks could be big in 2011.
Continue reading Three Canadian Investments for 2011

Three Canadian Investments for 2011 originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 15:40:00 EST. Earnings at these top banks have apparently taken a hit as profits from their trading divisions have lagged. But investors shouldn't have to count on the investment arm of a big bank to make money.

There are a number of high yield dividend stocks in the financial sector which offer plenty of payback no matter what the market does. These are financial stocks with big dividends that have managed to maintain high yields even as other financials have cut or eliminated their payouts in the wake of the financial crisis.
Continue reading Three Financial Stocks with +3% Yields

Three Financial Stocks with +3% Yields originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 23 Jul 2010 13:40:00 EST. After all, when the market is uncertain it's nice to have a quarterly payday to count on.

But to add an extra layer of safety to your portfolio, look for stocks that are long-term members in the dividend army. These so-called "dividend aristocrats" have been delivering profits back to shareholders for decades -- or in some cases, over a century!

Here are three dividend aristocrats who have been paying back shareholders since before World War II:
Continue reading Three Picks Paying Dividends Since World War II

Three Picks Paying Dividends Since World War II originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 19 Jul 2010 12:30:00 EST. There were a host of factors influencing stocks and keeping their value down in June. However, with careful selection investors can use the current volatility to make money. You see, there are plenty of fundamentally strong yet undervalued companies that the mainstream investment community hasn't picked up.

Which stocks fit the bill? But what happens when these stocks actually end up losing you cash instead of protecting your portfolio?

If you're losing a significant amount of money as the share prices of your high yield dividend stocks dive, then it may be time to pull the trigger and sell these dividend duds. After all there are a host of income friendly stocks out there, so why should you settle for one that offsets your quarterly dividends with regular losses in share price?
Continue reading Three Dividend Duds to Sell Now

Three Dividend Duds to Sell Now originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 16:40:00 EST. While it's important that the payout is substantial in these type of income investments, it's also important for investors to focus on stocks raising dividends because this helps guarantee that a company won't leave shareholders in the lurch and slash payouts when times get a little tough. After all, if you buy in for the quarterly payday, the last thing you want is for your holdings to slash their dividend payouts or let them languish without any increases.
For all you income investors out there, here are three stocks from the last week that just raised dividends and could be good additions to your holdings:
Continue reading Income Investments: 3 Stocks That Are Boosting Their Dividends

Income Investments: 3 Stocks That Are Boosting Their Dividends originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 16:40:00 EST. Retirees looking for safe places to stash their cash are already familiar with many blue chips that have hefty yields. It's just that when investors stop at the grocery store or pay their phone bill, they aren't thinking about how the big brands they're doing business with are actually good dividend payers.

Here are three of America's best know public corporations with yields that are about twice what 10-year Treasuries pay. But unfortunately for Sam Adams brewer Boston Beer (SAM), the price of success could be higher costs and the loss of its label as an "artisan" craft beer.

That's not to say a cold bottle of Sam Adams Summer Ale will taste any different to consumers. But according to the Brewers Association, "artisan" brewers include small outfits that put out less than two million barrels of suds a year. That means the brewer that almost single-handedly sparked interest in smaller batch brews with more flavor could be pushed into the same category as the big beer vendors like Anheuser Buch Inbev (BUD) and Molson Coors (TAP).

Continue reading Sam Adams May Lose 'Artisan Beer' Label

Sam Adams May Lose 'Artisan Beer' Label originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 12:00:00 EST. (AAPL) is synonymous with exclusivity, from its closely controlled operating systems to its top secret research. So it's a bit surprising that for the first time ever, the mass retailer Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT) will be partnering on the launch.

When the iPhone 4 debuts June 24, Wal-Mart will stock the gadget on its shelves at the exact moment the company's namesake Apple Stores do. And if that's not impressive enough, the deal is not just a first for the tech giant. It's a first for the big-box store, too. Most major electronics companies delay release of their goods at Wal-Mart, not let the store share in the debut. This move could mean Wal-Mart will be the site of future launch parties for highly anticipated electronics gear.
Continue reading Wal-Mart an Unlikely iPhone 4 Launch Partner

Wal-Mart an Unlikely iPhone 4 Launch Partner originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 14 Jun 2010 15:30:00 EST. Sometimes simple trading strategies are the best, and you can do more harm over-thinking your portfolio than you can by following the clear strategy you laid out for yourself months before the May swoon.

Here are three examples of simple investing rules that work in any market that can help you focus on the opportunity right now, and build a portfolio that succeeds no matter what happens on Wall Street:
Continue reading Three Simple Rules to Buying Great Stocks

Three Simple Rules to Buying Great Stocks originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. The company has shed more than $70 billion in value since April 20 when an explosion on one of its oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico sparked the worst crude oil disaster in U.S. history.

Some say that things could get even worse as the blowout on the ocean floor continues to wreak havoc and the price tag continues to mount. And no, we're not talking about the Chalupa Baja -- this is about a global sales for these franchises and their parent company.

In recent years, operator Yum! Brands (YUM) has been growing at a breakneck pace, now with more than 3,500 locations in China alone and plans to open another 900 restaurants outside the U.S. in 2010. And the next global market that is in its sights is the United Kingdom, with a Taco Bell in Essex set to peddle low-priced burritos by the end of June.

Continue reading Expansion in UK the Latest Way Yum! (GS)? Consumers have plenty of reasons to be down on both companies right now. Energy giant BP is up to its elbows in oil as a deepwater well on the ocean floor continues to spew oil over a month after the initial failure, and Goldman is currently under investigation for allegedly peddling investments while at the same time profiting from those investments' failures.

But some traders can't help but wonder whether the problems are overblown and one or both of these stocks are actually the bargain buy of the year right now. So what's the deal? Are these stocks really bad for investors, or are they just a victim of bad press?
Continue reading BP or Goldman Sachs -- Which Company Is Worse?

BP or Goldman Sachs -- Which Company Is Worse? originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 26 May 2010 17:00:00 EST. But the In-N-Out philosophy has also resulted in unmatched popularity that has current locations swamped. The only thing to do is open more stores -- including a rumored expansion into Dallas, Texas, in what would be a huge reach east for the chain.

The move should have Burger King Holdings (BKC) very worried - and not just because there will be another competing fast-food joint in town. The fact is that In-N-Out is seeing booming growth due to its business model and corporate philosophy at a time BK is losing momentum day by day.
Continue reading What Burger King Can Learn from In-N-Out Burger

What Burger King Can Learn from In-N-Out Burger originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 26 May 2010 15:30:00 EST. (BKC) typically has fought with chief rival McDonald's Corporation (MCD) when it came to prices and promotions. But recently Burger King has been in the middle of an internal battle -- specifically over a $1 double cheeseburger promotion, and ultimately, over whether corporate leaders can set pricing for individual restaurants.

Late last week, this food fight was decided when a judge ruled Burger King management had the right to dictate pricing to franchisees. But the real question is whether this mandate will help BKC stock break out of the doldrums. The company has the dubious distinction of being one of the few stocks that is actually trading lower than where it was in March 2009. The unfortunate reality is that this lawsuit isn't much of a victory for this battered burger giant unless it can actually show some top-line and bottom-line growth.
Continue reading BK Wins Lawsuit over Burger Prices, Loses Investor Confidence

BK Wins Lawsuit over Burger Prices, Loses Investor Confidence originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 24 May 2010 17:00:00 EST.
