Horton (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/d-r-horton-inc/dhi/nys">DHI</a>) builds homes. Can it build value in your portfolio? I decided to take a brief technical look at the company's stock.<br />
<br />
Earlier today, an item over at <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/DHI;KBHid1404409/DHI;KBH-DR-Horton-mentioned-cautiously-following-KB-Home-results-at-Credit-Suisse">TheFly</a> highlighted a comment on D.R. Horton by Credit Suisse, one that was described as "cautious." I'll tell you, being cautious might indeed be the correct position to take in this situation. The last time I wrote about the stock was <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/12/d-r-horton-down-after-earnings-release/">back in the fall</a>. The price at that point was around the $11.48 level. With less than two hours to go in today's session, I'm seeing a quote of $11.24.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/05/d-r-horton-buy-or-sell/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>D.R. How is its stock looking these days?</p>
<p>At the time of writing, shares could be had for $13.44. The 52-week low for the company is $10.91; the 52-week high is $19.86. That's a tight range, and as one might imagine, this company has been a vehicle for traders trying to ride whatever volatility is available at any given time.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/05/bac-checking-in-on-bank-of-americas-stock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BAC: Checking In on Bank of America's Stock</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/05/bac-checking-in-on-bank-of-americas-stock/">BAC: Checking In on Bank of America's Stock</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 10:00:00 EST. On Friday, the shares closed at $17.04. The 52-week low for the stock is $16.97, while the 52-week high is $27.74. With the company near its low point, should traders be looking at the stock? <br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/CSCOid1402936/CSCO-Cisco-shares-undervalued-says-Pacific-Crest">TheFly</a>, Pacific Crest believes the valuation on the shares is attractive. And at first glance, one might be inclined to agree with such a sentiment. In fact, considering the relatively tight 52-week range, I could easily imagine the stock rising after making what could theoretically turn out to be a bottom.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/cisco-buy-or-sell/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cisco: A Buy or Sell?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/cisco-buy-or-sell/">Cisco: A Buy or Sell?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 09:00:00 EST. At the time of this writing, shares were exchanging hands for $84.84. The peak for the year is $85.46. Is the stock set to go even higher?<br />
<br />
The 52-week low is $62.88, so those who were brave enough to buy at that point have been amply rewarded. Of course, you've also got to be brave to buy after a run-up.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/31/united-technologies-near-52-week-high-time-to-buy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>United Technologies Near 52-Week High: Time to Buy?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/31/united-technologies-near-52-week-high-time-to-buy/">United Technologies Near 52-Week High: Time to Buy?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 15:00:00 EST. How does the stock look now that the latest numbers are out? <br />
<br />
Well, from a fundamental point of view, things are looking pretty good. According to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/28/us-phillipsvanheusen-idUSTRE72R6DA20110328">Reuters</a>, the apparel concern made an adjusted 93 cents per share. Talk about a beat: that number was ten pennies above the consensus projection. In terms of guidance, management expects to bring in an adjusted profit between $4.70 and $4.95 per share over the next fiscal year; Wall Street was thinking that $4.75 per share was likely.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/30/phillips-van-heusen-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Phillips-Van Heusen: Buy or Sell?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/30/phillips-van-heusen-earnings/">Phillips-Van Heusen: Buy or Sell?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 15:50:00 EST. The company posted what appeared to be a strong earnings report, yet its stock is experiencing some pressure. At the time of this writing, it was down 3.3% to $19.09 on robust volume. <br />
<br />
According to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/real-estate/lennar-earnings/19895147/">Associated Press</a>, the company made 14 cents per share during the fiscal first quarter -- when the projection called for a loss of 5 cents per share. Great performance, right? And furthermore, this time last year at there was a Q1 loss of 4 cents per share. I mean, that has to be worth a bid, correct?<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/29/lennar-down-after-q1-report-watch-the-price-action/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lennar Down After Q1 Report: Watch the Price Action</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/29/lennar-down-after-q1-report-watch-the-price-action/">Lennar Down After Q1 Report: Watch the Price Action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 29 Mar 2011 17:30:00 EST. Actually, make that a couple days. At the time of this writing, shares of the 3D-theater entity were up 5.7% to $31.70. Volume was very significant (and there still were over two hours to go until the end of the trading day). On Thursday, the stock closed with an incredible gain. What's going on?<br />
<br />
Well, I'm assuming a deal in China, as mentioned over at <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/IMAXid1398564/IMAX-IMAX-announces-theatre-joint-revenue-sharing-agreement-in-China">TheFly</a>, helped to catalyze the bullish reaction by the market. In addition, our <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/25/analyst-upgrades-downgrades/">Analyst Calls</a> piece highlights an upgrade that was sent the company's way. The company, whose colleagues include Dollar Tree (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/dollar-tree-inc/dltr/nas">DLTR</a>) and Family Dollar Stores (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/family-dollar-stores-inc/fdo/nys">FDO</a>), saw excellent growth in its bottom line. How should we view the stock?<br />
<br />
According to the corporate <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/dollar-general-reports-record-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2010-financial-results/rfid426320156/?channel=pf">press release</a>, adjusted profit increased 27% to 65 cents per share. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/dollar-general-4th-quarter-net-income/1683959/">Associated Press</a> says that expectations were set at 59 cents per share. Furthermore, <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Same-Store%20Sales">same-store sales</a> appear healthy: They expanded by 3.8%.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/25/dollar-general-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dollar General: Buy on the Dips?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/25/dollar-general-earnings/">Dollar General: Buy on the Dips?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 10:00:00 EST. <p>
The stock has been in a very narrow range. The 52-week low is $21.02 while the 52-week high is $26.22. The one-year <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/conagra-foods-inc/cag/nys/tech-chart">chart</a> reflects the inability of the stock to break out to new levels. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/visa-inc-visa-inc/v/nys">V</a>). Even so, I have to give my respect today to Discover Financial Services (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/discover-financial-services-common-stock-when-issued/dfs/nys">DFS</a>). At the time of this writing, the stock was up 4.5% to $23.26. Volume was strong. Furthermore, a new 52-week high of $23.46 was recorded earlier in the day (by the time this is published, it's possible the high quote will be different). <br />
<br />
The stock has been a good holding over the last twelve months. The 52-week low is $12.11, and the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/discover-financial-services-common-stock-when-issued/dfs/nys/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> shows strength. The 52-week low for the shares is $25.45 and the 52-week high is $37.30. That puts the stock roughly in the middle of the range, which isn't here nor there. <br />

I usually like a quote to give me as much information as it can. Is it time to take a chance on this business?<br />
 <br />
Not much is going on with the stock while I'm writing this. With about ninety minutes to go before the end of the session, I'm seeing a quote of $36.59, a price that represents a gain of 0.6%. In addition, volume isn't impressive. The stock did, however, hit an intraday high of $37.16 earlier in the day. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/22/akamai-receives-upgrade-will-you-buy-the-stock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Akamai Receives Upgrade -- Will You Buy the Stock?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/22/akamai-receives-upgrade-will-you-buy-the-stock/">Akamai Receives Upgrade -- Will You Buy the Stock?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 18:00:00 EST. I haven't had a change of heart necessarily, but I do have to concede that the company's latest earnings report, issued yesterday morning, was a good one.</p>
<p>According to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/17/rossstores-idUSN1417644620110317">Reuters</a>, Q4 net profit increased 18% to $1.37 per share. While this number merely met Wall Street's projection, I enjoyed the growth rate. Furthermore, <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Same-Store%20Sales">same-store sales</a> experienced a healthy 4% expansion.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/18/ross-stores-reports-earnings-results-what-should-investors-thin/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ross Stores Reports Earnings Results: What Should Investors Think?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/18/ross-stores-reports-earnings-results-what-should-investors-thin/">Ross Stores Reports Earnings Results: What Should Investors Think?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 18:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nike-inc/nke/nys">NKE</a>) is doing horribly this afternoon. As I write this, a quote of $77.51 is on my screen. That represents a drop of over 9% for the shares. Volume is huge. Hopefully many of you out there didn't do an earnings trade on this one.</p>
<p>How bad were the fiscal Q3 numbers? According to <a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/story/nike-shares-slump-on-report-showing-cost-pressure-2011-03-18">MarketWatch</a>, net income of $1.08 per share was four pennies below the overall call by Wall Street. In addition, the potential for a weakening <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Gross%20Margin">gross margin</a> is said to have played a part in the sell-off.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/18/buyers-flee-nike-after-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Buyers Flee Nike After Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/18/buyers-flee-nike-after-earnings/">Buyers Flee Nike After Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 17:00:00 EST. Here's one bullet point from <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/MMMid1395810/MMM-M-Company-ramps-up-safetyrelated-production-Reuters-reports">TheFly</a>. The gathering brought my mind back to the stock. How is it looking these days?<br />
<br />
Well, it's pulled back from the 52-week high. At the time of this writing, shares were fetching a price of $88.68. The top point for the year is currently set at $94.16; the low point is $67.98, so thankfully we're nowhere near that depressing level. (Could the bearishness become so bad that we eventually get close to that price? Don't even think it!).</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/3m-still-a-buy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>3M: Still a Buy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/3m-still-a-buy/">3M: Still a Buy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 17:30:00 EST. <p>With one hour to go before the end of Thursday's session, the stock is up 4% to $88.68. Volume of shares is heavy and convincing. I should therefore jump on the bandwagon and buy, correct? Go with the flow? I don't think so. Yes, it's a pretty good move. But I might be more comfortable buying if the stock were closer to its 52-week high of $98.52. Such strength would give me pause for consideration.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/fedexl-id-be-a-seller/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FedEx: I'd Be a Seller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/fedexl-id-be-a-seller/">FedEx: I'd Be a Seller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 15:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) was down at the time of this writing. The shares were off by 3.7% to $332.77. Volume was heavy.</p>
<p>The 52-week low for the stock is $199.25; the 52-week high is $364.90. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/apple-inc/aapl/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> still looks pretty good, but obviously anything can happen at this point.
