The gains came to a mouth-watering $1.46 billion.</p>
<p>But now there's a huge problem; that is, the Australian tax authorities sent TPG a bill for a whopping <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/privateEquity/idUSSYD12447820091125">$628 million</a>. Its for back taxes, as well as penalties.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/25/tpg-gets-whacked-by-a-628-million-tax-bill/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TPG gets whacked by a $628 million tax bill</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/25/tpg-gets-whacked-by-a-628-million-tax-bill/">TPG gets whacked by a $628 million tax bill</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 13:30:00 EST. Keep in mind that worldwide sales of mobile phones hit 1.3 billion last year. Moreover, the growth should continue, especially in emerging markets in Asia, the Middle East, South America and even Africa. Thus, by delivering TV on mobile devices, the media industry can greatly expand its market.</p>
<p>But, there is a need for some critical technologies. And one of the leaders in the arena is Telegent Systems, which has <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1296612/000119312509240034/ds1.htm">filed to go public</a> this week.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/24/telegent-free-to-air-broadcast-tv-mobile-operator-files-for-an/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Telegent: Free-to-air broadcast TV mobile operator files for an IPO</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/24/telegent-free-to-air-broadcast-tv-mobile-operator-files-for-an/">Telegent: Free-to-air broadcast TV mobile operator files for an IPO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 24 Nov 2009 12:40:00 EST. Since then, it's been an incredible ride as the shares have reached $33.</p>
<p>Over the past month, Diedrich Coffee has actually been the target of a heated buyout battle from Peet's Coffee &amp; Tea (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/peet-s-coffee-and-tea-inc/peet/nas">PEET</a>) and Green Mountain Coffee Roaster (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/green-mountain-coffee-roasters-inc/gmcr/nas">GMCR</a>). Basically, many owners have given up on things and instead have focused on creative ways to boost cash flows.</p>
<p>So in light of all this, the announcement of the <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/18/buffett-goldman-pump-500-million-into-small-businesses/">$500 million small-business plan</a> from Goldman Sachs (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-goldman-sachs-group-inc/gs/nys">GS</a>) and Warren Buffett certainly was an eye-opener. Perhaps your business can get a piece of the action?</p>

<p>So does this mean we'll see a public offering of a company like Facebook?</p>

As a result, spending on information technology (IT) security software continues to grow at a hefty rate -- despite the recession.<br /><br />One of the clear beneficiaries is Fortinet, which <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1262039/000119312509237065/d424b4.htm">launched its IPO</a> today. The company issued 12.5 million shares at $12.50 each (the price range was $9 to $11). The underwriters on the deal included Morgan Stanley (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/morgan-stanley/ms/nys">MS</a>), JP Morgan (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPM</a>) and Deutsche Bank Securities (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/deutsche-bank-ag-germany/db/nys">DB</a>).<br /><br />What makes Fortinet different? Keep in mind that the traditional approach to IT security is to implement a variety of different products, like firewalls, filtering, etc. However, this can be expensive and bog down network performance.<br /><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/18/investors-feeling-secure-with-fortinet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Investors feeling secure with Fortinet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/18/investors-feeling-secure-with-fortinet/">Investors feeling secure with Fortinet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 14:30:00 EST. For example, the company sold its Japanese brokerage -- Nikko Cordial Securities -- and is even planning to take its Primerica unit public. <br /><br />The dealmaking has continued. This week, Citigroup has <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/financialsSector/idUSN1545949420091115">agreed to sell</a> its Bellsystem24 -- a major call center operator -- for $1 billion to Bain Capital LLC. All in all, it's a small deal. But every dollar counts, right?<br /><br />This deal also highlights another trend; that is, the Japanese market is getting more amenable to buyouts, which is certainly a big shift. After all, Japan tries to avoid huge job losses. Yet, this can make it more difficult to streamline companies. <br /><br />In fact, the Bellsystem24 transaction was able to get financing from a syndicate of Japanese financial institutions that include Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Mizuho Financial Group and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. No doubt, this is a sign that key players in Japan are willing to make some changes when it comes to buyouts.<em><br /><br />Tom Taulli is the author of various books, including</em> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0761535616?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=mergerforum0f-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0761535616">The Complete M&amp;A Handbook</a><img width="1" height="1" border="0" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=mergerforum0f-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0761535616" alt="" style="border-style: none ! important; margin: 0px;" />.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/16/japans-warming-up-to-buyouts/">Japan's warming up to buyouts?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 15:40:00 EST. It's natural.</p>
<p>But is there something different this time; that is, are customers becoming long-term frugal?</p>
<p>Perhaps. With an unemployment rate at 10.2%, it will likely take several years for it to get to normal levels. What's more, consumers are saddled with debt and have experienced drastic reductions in wealth (especially with the fall in the real estate market).</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/15/entrepreneurs-journal-how-to-sell-when-no-one-is-buying/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Entrepreneur's Journal: How to sell when no one is buying</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/15/entrepreneurs-journal-how-to-sell-when-no-one-is-buying/">Entrepreneur's Journal: How to sell when no one is buying</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 15 Nov 2009 17:40:00 EST. In such an industry, it's critical to be the industry leader.</p>
<p>So this week, GE <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/AIRDEF/idUSN1240429420091112">agreed to sell the unit</a> to United Technologies (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/united-technologies-corporation/utx/nys">UTX</a>) for $1.82 billion. So, he co-founded 3Com (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/3com-corporation/coms/nas">COMS</a>) back in 1979. It would become a pioneering company.<br /><br />But now 3Com will no longer be independent. That is, the company is selling out to <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/hewlett-packard-company/hpq/nys">Hewlett-Packard</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/hewlett-packard-company/hpq/nys">HPQ</a>) for <a href="http://h30261.www3.hp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=71087&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1354389&amp;highlight=">$2.7 billion in cash</a> or $7.90 per share. <br /><br />The deal is definitely a bold move. But HP needs to be aggressive with M&amp;A to continue its growth. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/12/hps-deal-for-3com-a-missile-launch-at-cisco/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP's deal for 3Com: A missile launch at Cisco?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/12/hps-deal-for-3com-a-missile-launch-at-cisco/">HP's deal for 3Com: A missile launch at Cisco?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 08:30:00 EST. And, one of the stars was Samuel Heyman, who made a fortune.<br /><br />Unfortunately, this week he <a href="http://www.law.harvard.edu/news/2009/11/09_heyman.html">died</a>, at the age of 70.<br /><br />Interestingly enough, Heyman's career was more than just about commerce. For example, after graduating from the Harvard Law School in 1963, he went on to work at the US Justice Department (under Robert Kennedy). From there, he became the assistant US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.<br /><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/11/80s-corporate-raider-samuel-heyman-dies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samuel Heyman was '80s corporate raider</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/11/80s-corporate-raider-samuel-heyman-dies/">Samuel Heyman was '80s corporate raider</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 16:20:00 EST. <p>But to continue the growth, Logitech has been expanding into new categories. One of the biggest is video conferencing.
