And consumer spending arises out of consumer confidence. Unfortunately, the signals along the road to economic recovery are mixed, what with the rising <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/29/third-quarter-gdp-shows-growth-is-the-recession-over/">GDP growth</a> and the dismal <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/06/jobless-rate-jumps-to-10-2-during-october/">unemployment</a> numbers. Its enough to leave investors scratching their heads. What barometers of consumer confidence will the coming week bring?</p>

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect this Plano, Tex.-based bottler and distributor of nonalcoholic beverages to report that earnings for that period rose 8.2% from a year ago to $0.49 per share. <p><strong>Tenet</strong> said <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/ap/tenet-healthcare-takes-3q-loss-but-raises-outlook/rfid267107830?channel=pf">it lost $3 million</a>, or a penny per share. That compares with a profit of $104 million, or 22 cents per share, a year earlier. But, Tenet reported a one-time gain of $140 million a year ago after selling investments.</p>

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect this leading entertainment, information, and communication provider to report earnings of $0.25 per share, just a penny per share lower than in both the previous quarter and a year ago. Comcast earnings have beat the Street view in the past four quarters, by as much as seven cents per share. Citi keeps a $23 price target on the stock. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/kellogg-company/k/nys">Kellogg</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/kellogg-company/k/nys">K</a>) was upgraded to Buy from Hold at Citigroup following the Q3 results, as it believes the company's reduced spending and share buyback will serve as catalysts. The firm raised its price target on shares to $63 from $50. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/rogers-communications-inc/rci/nys">Rogers Communications</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/rogers-communications-inc/rci/nys">RCI</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/telus-corporation/tu/nys">Telus</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/telus-corporation/tu/nys">TU</a>) were upgraded to Outperform from Sector Perform at RBC Capital, which said the CRTC unexpectedly denied Globalive's wireless application. The analyst said Globalive was potentially the biggest of new wireless competitors and the decision removes a big threat to the group. Rogers price target was raised to $40 from $33; Telus to $44 from $36. </li>

<p><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/aetna-incorporated/aet/nys">Aetna Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/aetna-incorporated/aet/nys">AET</a>) reported Thursday that its third-quarter profit rose 18% from a year ago to <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/aetna-reports-third-quarter-2009-results/rfid265494738?channel=pf">$308.2 million</a>, or $0.69 per share, topping Wall Street's expectations. Revenue came in at $8.72 billion, versus the consensus of $8.68 billion. Ltd.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/honda-motor-co-ltd-honda-giken-kogyo-kabushiki-kaisha-japan/hmc/nys">HMC</a>) posted much <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/honda-motor-co-ltd-reports-consolidated-financial-results-for-the-fiscal-second-quarter-ended-september-30-2009/rfid264673597?channel=pf">lower fiscal second quarter earnings</a>, but which were better than the loss the company had earlier expected. </p>
<p>In line with previously released preliminary results, Daimler posted a net profit of 56 million euros ($83.2 million), or 0.04 euros per share, down from 213 million euros ($316.5 million) in the same quarter of 2008. And it said revenue fell to 19.3 billion euros ($28.7 billion) from 24.5 billion ($36.4 billion) a year ago. But for U.S. Steel, it was the third straight quarterly loss as the economic downturn continued to drag down demand.</p>
<p>For the three months that ended in September, U.S. Steel said it <a href="http://news.aol.com/article/us-steel-posts-3rd-straight-quarterly/591798">lost $303 million</a>, or $2.11 per share. That compares with a profit of $919 million, or $7.79 per share, in the same period of last year. Revenue for the quarter fell 61% to $2.82 billion. <p>During the three months that ended in September, ConocoPhillips, entered <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/conocophillips-and-abu-dhabi-national-oil-company-sign-shah-gas-field-joint-venture-and-field-entry-agreements/rfid230396491?channel=pf">a joint venture in Abu Dhabi</a>, <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/asci-secures-conocophillips-global-inventory-optimization-contract/rfid255451327?channel=pf">upgraded its inventory software</a>, and declared <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/conocophillips-announces-quarterly-dividend/rfid232188927?channel=pf">a quarterly dividend</a>. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect this integrated energy company to report that earnings plunged 71.7% from a year ago to $0.94 per share.     <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/texas-instruments-incorporated/txn/nys">Texas Instruments</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/texas-instruments-incorporated/txn/nys">TXN</a>) was upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform at FBR Capital, which believes the company is gaining analog market share and shares are attractively valued at current levels. The firm maintains a $31 price target. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cablevision-systems-corporation/cvc/nys">Cablevision</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cablevision-systems-corporation/cvc/nys">CVC</a>) was upgraded at Wells Fargo to Outperform from Market Perform. The firm believes this year's run-up in the stock was primarily due to the company's spin-off of MSG, but the firm believes the stock can rise further based on fundamentals. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cabot-oil-and-gas-corporation/cog/nys">Cabot Oil &amp; Gas</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cabot-oil-and-gas-corporation/cog/nys">COG</a>) was upgraded to Overweight from Neutral at JPMorgan following the company's Q3 results due to valuation and its above-average growth. The firm raised its target to $51.50 from $47. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/radioshack-corporation/rsh/nys">RadioShack</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/radioshack-corporation/rsh/nys">RSH</a>) was upgraded to Hold from Underweight at KeyBanc, which said that its recovering sales trends were encouraging. </li>
    <li><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/travelzoo-inc/tzoo/nas">Travelzoo</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/travelzoo-inc/tzoo/nas">TZOO</a>) was upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Wedbush as it believes the divestiture of its Asian business coupled with growth in its Fly.com unit will drive 2010 growth. The firm raised its target to $17 from $13. </li>
