The most prominent earnings reports on tap are Wednesday's results from Bed Bath &amp; Beyond (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/bed-bath-and-beyond-inc/bbby/nas" class="inlinked">BBBY</a>) and from Monsanto (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/monsanto-company/mon/nys" class="inlinked">MON</a>). Here's what analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect to see.</p>
<p><strong>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond</strong></p>
<p>During its fiscal fourth quarter, the nation's largest domestics retailer <a href="https://secure.forumcomm.com/?publisher_ID=36&amp;article_id=188401&amp;CFID=167875164&amp;CFTOKEN=30400662">opened new stores</a> and its CEO <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/news/insider-trades/11/01/813530/bed-bath-beyond-ceo-sells-23-778-shares-of-bbby">sold shares</a>. Analysts anticipate that the New Jersey-based company will report per-share earnings of 97 cents, an increase of 11.3% from the same quarter of last year. The company also is expected to post revenue of $2.4 billion for the three months that ended in February, a 6.3% rise from a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/03/week-in-preview-bed-bath-and-beyond-monsanto-pier-1-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, Monsanto and Pier 1 Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/03/week-in-preview-bed-bath-and-beyond-monsanto-pier-1-earnings/">Week in Preview: Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, Monsanto and Pier 1 Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 03 Apr 2011 12:30:00 EST. But analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters have high hopes for results from fertilizer and animal feed maker Mosaic (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-mosaic-company/mos/nys">MOS</a>), apparel maker Phillips Van Heusen (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/phillips-van-heusen-corporation/pvh/nys">PVH</a>) and discount retailer Family Dollar (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/family-dollar-stores-inc/fdo/nys">FDO</a>). So here's a look at what they anticipate from these three companies.</p>
<p><strong>Mosaic</strong></p>
<p>During its fiscal second quarter, Cargill agreed to distribute <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/mosaic-and-cargill-agree-to-split-off-and-orderly-distribution-of-cargill-stake-in-mosaic/rfid405938161/?channel=pf">its stake in Mosaic</a>, and Mosaic also said it would <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/mosaic-to-redeem-455-million-2014-senior-notes/rfid394641356/?channel=pf">redeem senior notes</a>. Analysts anticipate that the Minnesota-based potash producer will report per-share earnings of $1.07, a jump of 53.3% from the same quarter of last year. Mosaic also is expected to post revenue of $2.4 billion for the three months that ended in February. That's a 35.9% rise from a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/27/week-in-preview-mosaic-family-dollar-earnings-and-march-unempl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Mosaic, Family Dollar Earnings and March Unemployment Rate</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/27/week-in-preview-mosaic-family-dollar-earnings-and-march-unempl/">Week in Preview: Mosaic, Family Dollar Earnings and March Unemployment Rate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 27 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/fedex-corporation/fdx/nys">FDX</a>) reported Thursday that its third-quarter earnings fell 3% to $231 million, or 73 cents per share, due to rising fuel prices and harsh winter weather.</p>
<p>FedEx also warned that earnings for the current quarter and the entire year could be reduced by the ongoing unrest in the Middle East, and that it's too soon to estimate the affect of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.</p>

On whether the Fed should end quantitative easing or extend it, Atlanta Fed chairman Dennis Lockhart recently said that the Fed should <a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/story/fed-flexibility-key-with-high-oil-lockhart-says-2011-03-07?reflink=MW_news_stmp">remain flexible</a> given the rising energy prices, which could be a sign of coming inflation. Either at this meeting or the next, the Fed could signal that interest rates will rise as a hedge against inflation.</p>
<p>Inflation will also be the focus when the Department of Labor releases the Producer Price Index (PPI) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) this week. Back in January the core PPI (which excludes energy and food costs) had its <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12489777">biggest jump in two years</a>, and the core CPI had <a href="http://news.morningstar.com/articlenet/article.aspx?id=371047">its largest uptick</a> in more than year, the second month in a row in which consumer prices jumped.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/13/week-in-preview-fomc-inflation-and-nike-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Inflation, the FOMC and Nike Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/13/week-in-preview-fomc-inflation-and-nike-earnings/">Week in Preview: Inflation, the FOMC and Nike Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 13 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. The Dow, Nasdaq and S&amp;P 500 all fell on Friday over concerns about how the ongoing unrest in the Middle East might affect energy prices, and thus the economic recovery.</p>
<p>Will this coming week's economic calendar offer anything likely to bring excitement to the markets? Here's what's on tap:</p>

Scheduled for release on Monday are <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Pending%20Home%20Sales%20Index%20-%20PHSI">pending home sales</a> and personal income numbers for January, as well as the Chicago <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Purchasing%20Managers%20Index%20-%20PMI">PMI</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Auto%20Sales">car and truck sales</a> data for February.</p>
<p>On Tuesday, look for the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ISM%20Manufacturing%20Index">ISM Manufacturing Index</a> for February and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Construction%20Spending">construction spending</a> numbers for January. That's followed on Wednesday by the week's first employment data: the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Challenger%20Job-Cut%20Report">Challenger Job-Cuts</a> announcement and the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ADP%20National%20Employment%20Report">ADP employment report</a> for February. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will deliver his semiannual monetary policy testimony before Congress on both days.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/27/week-in-preview-unemployment-rate-retail-earnings-bernanke-te/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Unemployment Rate, Retail Earnings, Bernanke Testimony</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/27/week-in-preview-unemployment-rate-retail-earnings-bernanke-te/">Week in Preview: Unemployment Rate, Retail Earnings, Bernanke Testimony</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 27 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. Following last week's disappointing <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/retail-sales/19844535/">January retail sales numbers</a> from the Commerce Department but strong fourth-quarter reports from Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>) and Nordstrom (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nordstrom-inc/jwn/nys">JWN</a>), the coming week will offer plenty more data on the sector for investors to mull over.</p>
<p><strong>Walmart</strong></p>
<p>Bentonville-based Walmart (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/wal-mart-stores-inc/wmt/nys">WMT</a>) offered <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-offers-free-shipping-to-home-this-holiday-season-with-no-minimum-purchase-requirement-online-at-walmart-com/rfid385747683/?channel=pf">free holiday shipping</a>, closed its <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-announces-closure-of-moscow-office/rfid395482426/?channel=pf">Moscow office</a> and named a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-u-s-appoints-duncan-mac-naughton-to-chief-merchandising-officer/rfid409237909/?channel=pf">chief merchandising officer</a> during its fourth quarter. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters forecast earnings for that period to come to $1.31 per share, up from $1.17 in the same quarter of last year. The world's largest retailer also is expected to post revenues of $117.7 billion for the three months that ended in January. That's 3.5% more than a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/20/week-in-preview-retail-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Walmart, Home Depot and More Retail Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/20/week-in-preview-retail-earnings/">Week in Preview: Walmart, Home Depot and More Retail Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 20 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. <p>This week, <strong>Dell </strong>(<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/dell-inc/dell/nas" class="inlinked" target="_blank">DELL</a>) highlights a handful of results from tech companies. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are looking for fourth-quarter earnings of 37 cents per share from the one of the world's top PC purveyors. That's up from 28 cents per share during the same period a year ago. Dell also is expected to report its revenue grew 5.5% year over year to $15.7 billion, for the three months that ended in January.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/13/week-in-preview-mid-quarter-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Mid-Quarter Earnings (DELL, SJM, MAR, JWN)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/13/week-in-preview-mid-quarter-earnings/">Week in Preview: Mid-Quarter Earnings (DELL, SJM, MAR, JWN)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 13 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. Here are the highlights:</p>
<ul>
    <li><strong>Tuesday: </strong>Weekly chain-store sales</li>
    <li><strong>Wednesday: </strong>Federal budget balance for January</li>
    <li><strong>Thursday: </strong>Wholesale trade data in December</li>
<li><strong>Friday:</strong> Trade balance in December and the weekly inflation survey</li>

<p>However, three iconic companies -- Walt Disney (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-walt-disney-company/dis/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">DIS</a>), Coca-Cola (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-coca-cola-company/ko/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">KO</a>) and Hasbro (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hasbro-inc/has/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">HAS</a>) -- highlight this week's quarterly results. We'll find out whether there's been any movement on that front when employment data for January comes out this week. The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Challenger%20Job-Cut%20Report">Challenger Job-Cut</a> report and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ADP%20National%20Employment%20Report">ADP employment data</a> are due Wednesday, and the government's unemployment rate on Friday. Another mild increase in jobs is expected, in line with the three-month average, but not enough to significantly reduce the unemployment rate.</p>

CEO Steve Jobs said Monday that he is taking <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/investing/apple-ceo-steve-jobs-takes-another-medical-leave-of-absence/19803677/">another medical leave of absence</a>, leaving responsibility for day-to-day decisions to Cook.</p>
<p>This is the third time Cook took up the reins, the first in 2004 when Jobs recovered from surgery for pancreatic cancer, and again in January through June of 2009 when Jobs had a liver transplant. Many people consider Cook to be Jobs's logical successor.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/17/steve-jobs-medical-leave/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Steve Jobs Takes Another Medical Leave</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/17/steve-jobs-medical-leave/">Steve Jobs Takes Another Medical Leave</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 17 Jan 2011 11:00:00 EST. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters foresee strong reports from such big names as Apple (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>), eBay (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/ebay-inc/ebay/nas" class="inlinked">EBAY</a>), IBM (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/international-business-machines-corporation/ibm/nys">IBM</a>), General Electric (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys" class="inlinked">GE</a>), Google (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>), Schlumberger (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/schlumberger-ltd-netherlands-antilles/slb/nys" class="inlinked">SLB</a>) and Southwest Airlines (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/southwest-airlines-co/luv/nys" class="inlinked">LUV</a>). And fast on the heels of last week's <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/jpmorgan-earnings-the-return-of-big-bank-profits/19801174/">big earnings beat</a> from JPMorgan Chase (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys" class="inlinked">JPM</a>), there will be plenty more results from the financial sector to peruse this week.</p>
<p>Among the financials expected to post double-digit earnings growth this week are Capital One Financial (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/capital-one-financial-corporation/cof/nys" class="inlinked">COF</a>), Morgan Stanley (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/morgan-stanley/ms/nys" class="inlinked">MS</a>), SLM Corp. Here's a quick look at what analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect to see, followed by a glance at what's coming up on the economic calendar.</p>
<p><strong>Alcoa</strong></p>
<p>During its fourth quarter, Alcoa saw increased <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/emerging-markets-driving-aluminum-demand/rfid387654301/?channel=pf">demand in emerging markets</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/press/alcoa-surplus-properties-offered-at-higgenbotham-auction/rfid379216555/?channel=pf">sold surplus properties</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/alcoa-holds-investor-day/rfid385516631/?channel=pf">shared revenue targets</a> with investors. Analysts forecast that earnings for the period will come to 19 cents per share, up from just a penny per share in the same quarter of last year. The New York-based aluminum producer also is expected to post revenue of $5.7 billion for the three months that ended in December, which is 4.5% more than a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/week-in-preview-alcoa-intel-jpmorgan-kick-off-new-earnings-se/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Alcoa, Intel, JPMorgan Kick Off New Earnings Season</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/week-in-preview-alcoa-intel-jpmorgan-kick-off-new-earnings-se/">Week in Preview: Alcoa, Intel, JPMorgan Kick Off New Earnings Season</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 09 Jan 2011 12:30:00 EST. Starting out on Monday, the Chicago Fed releases its Midwest Manufacturing Index for November.</p>
<p>Tuesday brings the final <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Consumer%20Confidence%20Index%20-%20CCI">Consumer Confidence Index</a> of the year, as well as the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/S&amp;P/Case-Shiller%20U.S.%20National%20Home%20Price%20Index">S&amp;P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index</a> for October, the Richmond Fed's Business Surveys, and a look at chain store sales for the week leading up to Christmas.</p>
<p>Data on last week's initial jobless claims will be released on Thursday. And then Friday brings the New York NAPM Index and the Chicago <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Purchasing%20Managers%20Index%20-%20PMI">Purchasing Managers Index</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/26/week-in-preview-final-economic-data-of-the-year/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Final Economic Data of the Year</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/26/week-in-preview-final-economic-data-of-the-year/">Week in Preview: Final Economic Data of the Year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 26 Dec 2010 10:30:00 EST. The Florida-based tech company is scheduled to discuss its fiscal first-quarter 2011 financial results after the market closes today, December 20, in a <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Conference%20Call">conference call</a> at 4:30 PM (ET) with CEO Timothy Main and CFO Forbes Alexander. You can catch a <a href="http://jbl.client.shareholder.com/earnings.cfm?EventID=89220">live webcast</a> of the call at the company's website.</p>
<p>During the three months that ended in November, the Florida-based tech company <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/jabil-announces-closing-of-400-million-5-625percent-senior-notes/rfid382928800/?channel=pf">closed a note offering</a>. Analysts expect Jabil to report that earnings for that period jumped 41.8% from a year ago to 55 cents per share, as well as that revenue increased 28.4% to $3.9 billion</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/20/earnings-preview-high-expectations-for-jabil-circuit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earnings Preview: High Expectations for Jabil Circuit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/20/earnings-preview-high-expectations-for-jabil-circuit/">Earnings Preview: High Expectations for Jabil Circuit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 20 Dec 2010 10:00:00 EST. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect strong <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/earnings/" class="inlinked" target="_blank">earnings</a> results from Nike (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nike-inc/nke/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">NKE</a>), Bed Bath &amp; Beyond (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/bed-bath-and-beyond-inc/bbby/nas" class="inlinked" target="_blank">BBBY</a>) and Darden Restaurants (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/darden-restaurants-inc/dri/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">DRI</a>), among others. Here's a quick look (for more details, see the <em>DailyFinance</em> <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/2010/12/19/week-in-preview-nike-and-bed-bath-and-beyond-earnings-could-sprea/19768158/">Week in Preview</a>).</p>
<p>Analysts forecast <strong>Nike</strong>'s fiscal-second quarter earnings to come in at 88 cents per share, a 13.6% increase from the same period of last year. The world's leading athletic footwear maker also is expected to post revenue of $4.8 billion for the three months that ended in November. That's 9.3% more than the same period a year earlier. Note that Nike's earnings have not fallen short of consensus estimates in the past five quarters.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/19/week-in-preview-nike-bed-bath-and-beyond-darden-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Late Season Earnings from Nike, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, Darden</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/19/week-in-preview-nike-bed-bath-and-beyond-darden-earnings/">Week in Preview: Late Season Earnings from Nike, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, Darden</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 19 Dec 2010 12:30:00 EST.
