The big players like Apple (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>), Amazon.com (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amazon-com-inc/amzn/nas">AMZN</a>) and Google (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>) have put together a one-stop shop in their app stores.</p>
<p>First off, an app store is just that, a place where you can pick and choose the apps you want to download. The app store is also a place where entrepreneurs can develop an app and with permission place it on the iPhone, iPad or Android device.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/26/app-stores-a-new-business-model/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>App Stores: A New Business Model</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/26/app-stores-a-new-business-model/">App Stores: A New Business Model</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 12:50:00 EST. <p>Qualcomm wants to drive demand for its powerful processors that can handle high speed computing tasks for mobile devices. To do that, it intends to promote processor intensive augmented reality applications. Augmented reality aims to aid consumers with what they see. By pointing the phone's camera to objects and scanning them, the application can then identify them in the database, and find relevant material.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/qualcomm-to-launch-augmented-reality-software-applications/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Qualcomm to Launch 'Augmented Reality' Software Applications</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/qualcomm-to-launch-augmented-reality-software-applications/">Qualcomm to Launch 'Augmented Reality' Software Applications</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 10:40:00 EST. Let's take the explosion of mobile data. Smartphones and iPhones are creating a huge traffic jam in wireless communication. At present we are using fixed cell towers to transmit data from towers to the Internet. <br />
<br />
The need to handle the mobile explosion is putting extreme pressure on present tower operators to upgrade their equipment or build new towers. This is a cumbersome, time consuming process.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/03/alcatel-lucent-launches-tiny-new-cell-phone-antenna-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Alcatel-Lucent Launches Tiny New Cell Phone Antenna System</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/03/alcatel-lucent-launches-tiny-new-cell-phone-antenna-system/">Alcatel-Lucent Launches Tiny New Cell Phone Antenna System</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 15:30:00 EST. <br />
The company is on the move again -- and Google's Android is leading the way. Google sees the next leg of the Internet revolution in the smart phone, tablet and e-reader market -- and there's already a fierce battle raging. Google's Android is making inroads into the iPhone turf. How deep is the penetration? Singapore research firm Canalys said, "<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-02-14/google-s-android-is-the-next-windows-volpi-says.html">Google shipped twice as many devices as Apple's iPhone.</a> in the fourth quarter," capturing 33% of shipments, up from 8.7% a year ago.<br />

Such is the case with smart phones. Entrepreneurs have found a way to facilitate buying with your smart phone. Companies like Intuit (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/intuit-inc/intu/nas">INTU</a>) and VeriFone (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/verifone-holdings-inc/pay/nys">PAY</a>) have created a card reader that can be inserted into your iPhone (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) or other smart phone. Then you can swipe a credit card through the reader and use it to make online purchases.</p>

Microsoft (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas" class="inlinked">MSFT</a>) jumped out the starting gate with its Windows operating system and took the world by storm. Then for some unknown reason, Microsoft missed the entire search engine revolution and Google (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas" class="inlinked">GOOG</a>) raced to first place. Now Microsoft has again missed the next leg -- the iPhone and iPad revolution, and Apple (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) holds first place in this segment.</p>
<p>Nokia (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nokia-corporation/nok/nys" class="inlinked">NOK</a>) was a pioneer in the smartphone revolution, but with Apple's drive to the top, Nokia lost its momentum. Once Nokia had <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/12/technology/12nokia.html"> 50% of the handset market</a>. Now that share has fallen to just 29%. It's hard to believe but Microsoft has only 2% of the global phone software market.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/13/microsoft-and-nokia/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Microsoft and Nokia Join to Build a New Smartphone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/13/microsoft-and-nokia/">Microsoft and Nokia Join to Build a New Smartphone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 13 Feb 2011 09:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys" class="inlinked">VZ</a>), as customers could finally walk into a Verizon store and pick up an iPhone. Some analysts had expected to see some long lines, but they did not materialize, creating the impression that the launch was less than successful, <a href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2380133,00.asp">but looks can be deceiving</a>.</p>
<p>It is easy to understand where the confusion comes from. In the past, whenever Apple released a new iPhone we saw long lines and often not even supply to cover the launch date demand, resulting in long waits for eager iPhone fanatics to get their hands on the new smartphone.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/11/small-lines-for-verizons-iphone-launch-could-be-deceiving/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Small Lines for Verizon's iPhone Launch Could Be Deceiving</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/11/small-lines-for-verizons-iphone-launch-could-be-deceiving/">Small Lines for Verizon's iPhone Launch Could Be Deceiving</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 11 Feb 2011 16:30:00 EST. Google answered that challenge last week with the <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20110131/tc_nf/77130">launch of Honeycomb</a>. Motorola Mobility's (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/messina-minerals-inc-tier1/mmi/van">MMI</a>) Xoom, due out later this month, will feature Honeycomb and should make a splash in the tablet market as competition heats up among tablet manufacturers and affiliated operating systems.<br />
<br />
Even with the older version, Android has already started to dent iPad's market share due to the success of Samsung's Galaxy Tab, and we expect that Xoom could improve Android's position <a href="http://eon.businesswire.com/news/eon/20110131005139/en/apple/ipad/google">intensifying the showdown</a> between Android and Apple's iPad OS.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/11/google-honeycomb-to-the-frontlines-of-os-wars/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Google Brings Honeycomb to the Frontlines of OS Wars</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/11/google-honeycomb-to-the-frontlines-of-os-wars/">Google Brings Honeycomb to the Frontlines of OS Wars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 11 Feb 2011 15:40:00 EST. But this is a new year. Are we going to see the same dynamics? The same gains? Those are the questions analysts are pondering.<br />
<br />
First off we have <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703675904576063931582209722.html?mod=WSJ_Markets_LEFTTopNews">the technicians.</a> They use indexes, charts, graphs and other technical tools to make their calls on the market. One favorite index is the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, dubbed SOX. It often is a leading indicator for where tech stocks are headed. For the past month, the index has stayed near the 420 level. That has become the overhead resistance point. Technicians argue that the 420 to 422 level must be breached and the market hold above that level for the rally to continue. Otherwise we could see a pull back.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/06/should-we-be-wary-of-tech-stocks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Should We Be Wary of Tech Stocks?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/06/should-we-be-wary-of-tech-stocks/">Should We Be Wary of Tech Stocks?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 10:20:00 EST. <p>Analysts had been expecting to see the company report <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/earnings/" class="inlinked">earnings</a> of 55 cents per share, but actual earnings came in well above at 62 cents per share. </p>
<p>It was a really good quarter for Microsoft, but revenues did not rise enough to stay above Apple's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) recent quarterly numbers.
