This could pose a threat to OVTI's AAPL business, as OVTI had been the main supplier of image sensors for the iPhone. If you think this stock won't be rising too far in the coming months, then it could be a good time to look at a bearish hedged play on OVTI.</p>
<p>This morning, OVTI opened at $34.06. So far today the stock has hit a high of $34.10 and a low of $32.20. As of 12:15, OVTI is trading at $33.15, down $3.04 (-8.4%). The chart for OVTI looks neutral and <a href="http:// www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline" target="_blank">S&amp;P</a> gives OVTI a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold ranking.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/will-apple-squeeze-omnivision-out-of-the-iphone-business/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Will Apple Squeeze OmniVision Out of the iPhone Business?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/will-apple-squeeze-omnivision-out-of-the-iphone-business/">Will Apple Squeeze OmniVision Out of the iPhone Business?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 13:00:00 EST. The big players like Apple (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>), Amazon.com (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amazon-com-inc/amzn/nas">AMZN</a>) and Google (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>) have put together a one-stop shop in their app stores.</p>
<p>First off, an app store is just that, a place where you can pick and choose the apps you want to download. The app store is also a place where entrepreneurs can develop an app and with permission place it on the iPhone, iPad or Android device.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/26/app-stores-a-new-business-model/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>App Stores: A New Business Model</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/26/app-stores-a-new-business-model/">App Stores: A New Business Model</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 12:50:00 EST. Its headquarters are on the campus of Cambridge University in England. ARM holdings has carved out a unique niche in the computer chip market.</p>
<p>It is a different kind of chip maker. A little company called Nvidia's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nvidia-corporation/nvda/nas" class="inlinked">NVDA</a>) design won so far with its Tegra 2. Its shares are up almost 50% since December. Texas Instruments (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/texas-instruments-incorporated/txn/nys" class="inlinked">TXN</a>) is also a player in tablet chip market with its OMAP5 processor.<br />
<br />
Now, Qualcomm <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/qualcomm-incorporated/qcom/nas" class="inlinked">QCOM</a>) is joining the fray with its new <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/10/us-qualcomm-idUSTRE7198L220110210">APQ 8060 dual core Snapdragon processor</a>. Apple's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) iPhone is <em>the </em>prized device. AT&amp;T (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/atandt-inc/t/nys">T</a>), Verizon's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys" class="inlinked">VZ</a>) rival, has had the an exclusive hold on the iPhone. Verizon has been trying to play catch up. Now that Verizon will have the iPhone, the playing field will change dramatically. Verizon, with about 93 million subscribers, could grab an estimated 10 million new subscribers with the iPhone, as reported by the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704739504576068170230339348.html?mod=WSJ_hp_LEFTWhatsNewsCollection"><em>Wall Street Journal</em></a>.</p>
<p>The move is also a big boost for Apple. Apple has been feeling the pressure from Google (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas" class="inlinked">GOOG</a>), with its Android system. Android phones passed the iPhone in sales in the second quarter. This move to Verizon will open up a new expanded base for Apple.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/verizon-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Verizon Finally Gets the iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/verizon-iphone/">Verizon Finally Gets the iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 09 Jan 2011 09:30:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) has been having great success with its iPad since it was released earlier this year, but over the next couple of years it could see its market share come under <a href="http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/10/android-tablets-will-beat-ipad/">increased pressure</a> from Google, Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas" class="inlinked">GOOG</a>) Android Tablets.<br />
<br />
Since launching the iPad, Apple has sold over 3 million units, but according to Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, over the next couple of years, Android tablets could easily overtake the iPad in market share.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/12/apple-ipad-to-face-tough-competition-from-android-tablets/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple iPad to Face Tough Competition from Android Tablets</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/12/apple-ipad-to-face-tough-competition-from-android-tablets/">Apple iPad to Face Tough Competition from Android Tablets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 17:30:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) unleashed the iPhone on the world back in 2007 the company has sold millions of the device and created a massive market for iPhone apps. Developers have invested a lot of time and money in creating apps for the popular iPhone, but have been frustrated by the lack of guidelines and communication with Apple. </p>
<p>Developers have been begging for more insight into the approval process, and today Apple gave them what they wanted by <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-09/apple-to-publish-app-store-guidelines-relax-restrictions.html">releasing the guidelines</a> it uses to review submitted apps.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/09/apple-releases-guidelines-for-app-developers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple Releases Guidelines for App Developers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/09/apple-releases-guidelines-for-app-developers/">Apple Releases Guidelines for App Developers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 16:30:00 EST. The reason was a strong <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-20/intuit-advances-on-sales-growth-forecast-stock-buyback-plan.html">earnings report</a>, in which the company provided a bullish outlook as well as a $2 billion stock <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Buyback" class="inlinked">buyback</a>. Even with the higher price, the momentum should continue.</p>
<p>After all, Intuit keeps innovating its product line -- and has the luxury of a hefty customer base. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) traded sharply higher in after-hours trading Tuesday after the company posted <a href="http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/apple-earnings-surge-jobs-says-amazing-new-products-still-on-tap/36959">strong quarterly results</a> for its third quarter.<br />
<br />
Analysts had been expecting to see the company post earnings of $2.84 a share, but Apple easily beat that estimate with a reported $3.51 a share. During the same period last year the company had earnings of $1.35 per share.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/21/apple-earnings-another-solid-quarter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple Earnings Soar, Topping Estimates</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/21/apple-earnings-another-solid-quarter/">Apple Earnings Soar, Topping Estimates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 08:30:00 EST. This morning, ahead of its iPhone 4 press conference, Apple shares fell 0.7% by noon trading. The iPhone 4, which was to be yet another smashing success has become a somewhat sore issue. While at first sales of the new phone once again blew past expectations, <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/iphone-4-rings-up-mass-sales-despite-reception-and-display-compl/19530112/">reports of bad reception</a> and dropped calls immediately tarnished the new must-have gadget. <br />
<br />
But "antennagate," as it's been dubbed, just began, especially with Apple's response to consumers: <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/steve-jobs-to-lefties-stop-holding-my-iphone-the-wrong-way/19530549/">avoid gripping the phone in the lower-left corner</a>. <em>Consumer Reports</em> then said it <a href="http://blogs.consumerreports.org/electronics/2010/07/apple-iphone-4-antenna-issue-iphone4-problems-dropped-calls-lab-test-confirmed-problem-issues-signal-strength-att-network-gsm.html">can't recommend the iPhone 4</a> after tests by its engineers confirmed that the device does indeed have reception problems. And Bloomberg <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/company-news/apple-antenna-expert-predicted-iphone-4s-dropped-call-problem/19555962/">reported</a> that a a senior antenna engineer named Ruben Caballero personally raised concerns about the design to Jobs.<br />
<br />
So Apple then announced it will<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larry-magid/apple-to-hold-iphone-4-pr_b_646924.html"> hold a press conference</a> at 10 AM Pacific time on Friday. That's in two hours. Unfortunately for the tech company, a good deal of it is negative. There is a problem with reception for the iPhone, a problem that stems from touching "a spot" on the lower left side of the phone. This problem caused <em>Consumer Reports</em> to say that it "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.mainstreet.com/article/smart-spending/technology/consumer-reports-we-cant-recommend-iphone-4">can't recommend the iPhone 4</a>." On July 2, Apple tried to <a href="http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/07/02appleletter.html">explain</a> that the problem was not the antenna, but that it was a calculation mistake that makes it appear that there were two more bars of reception -- seriously. Apple did offer to fix the problem with a free software update (available in a "few weeks") for the iPhone 4, 3, and 3GS. <br />

And with tomorrow's news conference, the buzz has reached fever pitch. <br />
<br />
I would certainly not want to be a senior executive at Apple right now. Steve Jobs is notorious for being extremely tough. Hey, there are stories where he has fired people in elevators, right?<br />

(<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>) launched its fourth generation iPhone this past weekend, and as was the case in the past, iPhone fanatics lined up across the country to get their hands on the new iPhone, leading to <a href="http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/06/apple-sells-1-7-million-iphone-4-handsets-in-opening-weekend/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wired%2Findex+%28Wired%3A+Index+3+%28Top+Stories+2%29%29">large sales volumes</a> for the first three days the new smart phone has been on the market.<br />
<br />
Everyone knew that the iPhone 4 would have a good opening weekend, but not even the most optimistic forecasts predicted that the company would sell 1.7 million units.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/28/iphone-4-has-good-opening-weekend/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone 4 Has Good Opening Weekend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/28/iphone-4-has-good-opening-weekend/">iPhone 4 Has Good Opening Weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 18:10:00 EST. A pricing battle between Barnes &amp; Noble (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/barnes-and-noble-inc/bks/nys">BKS</a>) - which makes the Nook -- and Amazon.com, Inc. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amazon-com-inc/amzn/nas">AMZN</a>) -- parent of the Kindle -- leaves consumers the winners, as the devices are <a href="http://mashable.com/2010/06/21/ereader-price-cuts/" target="_blank">now priced south of $200</a>. <br />
<br />
The WiFi-only Nook is now available for just $149 (the 3G version is priced at $199) and the 3G-enabled Kindle has been marked down to $189 from $259. That's a 27% savings. It's also conveniently $10 less than the comparable Nook.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/21/the-e-reader-battle-wages-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Amazon and Nook Prices Drop as E-reader Battle Wages On</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/21/the-e-reader-battle-wages-on/">Amazon and Nook Prices Drop as E-reader Battle Wages On</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) needs to send personalized holiday cards to all of its customers to thank them for their unwavering and fierce loyalty. Apple-philes are a special breed of fanatic, and they are always in search of the next innovation. Witness the initial iPad sales, which surpassed even Apple's optimistic expectations. And witness early pre-orders of the iPhone 4, debuting in the U.S. on June 24. <br />
<br />
First, anxious shoppers <a target="_blank" href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20007758-260.html?tag=mncol;txt">crashed </a>AT&amp;T, Inc.'s (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/atandt-inc/t/nys">T</a>) shopping server in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. AT&amp;T has now suspended advance orders indefinitely. And still, the number of pre-orders for the iPhone 4 were <a target="_blank" href="http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/16/att-iphone-4-pre-order-sales-were-ten-times-higher-than-first-day-3gs-sales/">10 times higher</a> than orders for the 3GS last year. If you weren't one of the lucky ones to order through Apple or AT&amp;T while they still had existing inventory, you'll be waiting until the next shipment, expected to be before July 2.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-order-sales-trump-3gs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone 4 Pre-Order Sales Trump 3GS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-order-sales-trump-3gs/">iPhone 4 Pre-Order Sales Trump 3GS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 16:30:00 EST. On the plus side, it's become easier for you to shop for one. Tiffany &amp; Co. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/tiffany-and-company/tif/nys">TIF</a>) has launched a <a href="http://mashable.com/2010/06/14/tiffany-co-iphone-app/" target="_blank">new app</a> for Apple's (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) iPhone, and it may just become a girl's best friend. <br />
<br />
The free app, called the "Engagement Ring Finder," allows a would-be groom (or bride) to browse through shapes, settings, metals, designs, and carat sizes (only up to 2.5 carats, so the super generous among you will have to visit a TIF store). It is also possible to view the rings from various angles and look at them "actual size." Users can save their favorite looks to consult with friends and family via text, email, Facebook, and Twitter.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/15/isnt-it-romantic-shop-tiffany-from-your-phone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Isn't It Romantic?
