Sep 26th 2009 1:16PM I am a 60-year-ol white lawyer, who has neve voted Republican. I see making the issue of parentin a political issue an abomination worse than Sodom and Gommorah. I hav as much college education as my fathe has education. His father in the 1920 attended college. His mother and fathe were bar alcoholics allowing him to roam the hard streets of Walnut Hills, in the Parish wher the loca mafia lived. He is climbed a long ladder and I am extremely proud of him.
Yet his life unti enlisting for World War II did no significantly diffe today' Street punks. His friends killed people, not for the mafia, but to protect their turf from which they fed their families.
Today's family value crisis comes from four points: 1) the splitting of familie by divorce or casual sexual relations. 2)In the 1920, Walter Lippmann in the "Preface to Morals" made a coment I still remember 32 years later. (if someone researches the quot and I do not have that verbatim correc just think how impressed I wa to remember it for 32 years)
he made a statemen along the line "that when simple,easy to use,and acessible birth control was developed the nature of society would change. From time immemoria marriage know was a bargain for sexual contract. The male had sex from the femal in return fo providin the family with housin and foo and the othe elements of sustenance. Three, the American econom no longe his any room in at a person with m father's limited educatio to have any hop of climbin at the economi ladder withou an education.
Fourth, is drugs. This issu has eluded any solution or explanatio I have had since I was 20. "To Kill a Mockingbird" and even more prevalently "Sherlock Holmes", which discussed his heroin abuse indicate that drug use and abuse have been around forever. see Oneill's classicc "A Long days Journey into Night." Only give an objectiv viewe trying to solve this as a socila problem along day's nightmare.
Politicizing parenting to most political issues of our time will only insure that PARENTING will enjoy the sucess of th "War on Drugs"

Jun 22nd 2009 5:52PM W.E.B. DuBois, Ph.D. in history and Sociology, Harvard, has written the book historians considered the masterpiece on "The Suppression of the African slave trade." I have read all 500or so pages of the book 40 years ago.
TRUTH FAILS TO BOTHER HATERS.DuBois could never get Tenure at a college as he an African American.
Strom Thurmond, the pre-eminent racist senator, after DNA test was found to have some trace of African blood.

Apr 24th 2008 6:10PM You said the magic word "architect." Iwas in a high priced assisted living facility and there was no central over head light.The place looked like. I knew why I was depressed and knew why my client is depressed. As a lawyer I shall not mention the creative theories of liabiltiy for the layout. But my Irish temper too off that over lighting existed.
