It closed down almost 15% to $42.10. The 52-week low for the stock is $38.39 while the 52-week high is $76.86. As can be seen by the yearly range, the company isn't so popular right now.<br />
<br />
The one-year <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/apollo-group-inc/apol/nas/tech-chart">chart</a> is rather lousy, although shares of the education entity, which owns University of Phoenix, have rebounded a little in recent times. That may end up not meaning much, though, considering the recent negative price action.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/14/apollo-group-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apollo Group Earnings: Time to Buy or Sell?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/14/apollo-group-earnings/">Apollo Group Earnings: Time to Buy or Sell?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. Brands (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/yum-brands-inc/yum/nys">YUM</a>), while Marriott (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/marriott-international-incorpora/mar/nys">MAR</a>) and Pepsico (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/pepsico-inc/pep/nys">PEP</a>) met consensus <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Earnings%20Per%20Share%20-%20EPS">EPS</a> estimates. This week, bellwether companies Intel (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/intel-corporation/intc/nas">INTC</a>), General Electric (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys">GE</a>), Google (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>) and JPMorgan Chase (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPM</a>) are scheduled to report their third-quarter results, and analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are looking for earnings growth from all of them.</p>
<p>Santa Clara, Calif.-based <strong>Intel </strong>announced the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/intel-to-acquire-mcafee/rfid359365006/?channel=pf">acquisition of McAfee</a> and joint ventures with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/ge-intel-to-form-new-healthcare-joint-venture/rfid354017938/?channel=pf">General Electric</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/intel-and-nokia-create-first-joint-laboratory/rfid360718221/?channel=pf">Nokia</a> (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nokia-corporation/nok/nys">NOK</a>) during its third quarter. Analysts forecast earnings for that period to come to 50 cents per share, which is up 34.0% from the same period of last year. The number one semiconductor maker's revenue for the three months ended in September is expected to total $11.0 billion, or 17.1% more than a year earlier. Looking ahead to the full year, the forecast thus far is for earnings of $1.94 per share (+44.8%) and $43.3 billion in revenue (+23.4%). The per-share earnings topped analysts' expectations in the past four quarters, by as much as a dime per share.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/10/week-in-preview-intc-ge-goog-jpm-earnings-expectations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Earnings Expectations for Intel, GE, Google and JPMorgan</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/10/week-in-preview-intc-ge-goog-jpm-earnings-expectations/">Week in Preview: Earnings Expectations for Intel, GE, Google and JPMorgan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 10 Oct 2010 12:30:00 EST. The data shows that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.ticker.com/?page=stock_movers&amp;story=ITT%20Educational,%20Corinthian,%20Apollo%20Group%20Plunge&amp;id=40108">students at for-profit schools pay back federal loans at a 36% rate compared to 54% at public institutions</a>. APOL, which runs the University of Phoenix, is higher today after comments from Deutsche Bank that indicate the school will expand its bachelor;s degree program. In contrast, both ITT Educational Services (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/itt-educational-services-inc/esi/nys">ESI</a>) and Devry (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/devry-inc-del/dv/nys">DV</a>) are both down more than 9% so far today. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on APOL.<br />
<br />
APOL opened this morning at $39.37. So far today the stock has hit a low of $39.34 and a high of $44.54. As of 12:20, APOL is trading at $41.49 up @2.53 (6.5%). The chart for APOL looks neutral and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline">S&amp;P</a> gives APOL a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold ranking.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/apollo-group-not-weighd-down-by-loan-repayment-study/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apollo Group Not Weighed Down by Loan Repayment Study</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/apollo-group-not-weighd-down-by-loan-repayment-study/">Apollo Group Not Weighed Down by Loan Repayment Study</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 16 Aug 2010 14:00:00 EST. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apollo-group-inc/apol/nas">APOL</a>) is expected to be an <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/earnings/">earnings</a> winner. <p>Analysts on average expect for-profit education provider <strong>Apollo Group </strong>to report that its fiscal third-quarter earnings rose 18.7% from a year ago to $1.55 per share. Revenue for the three months that ended in May is expected to have risen 23.2% in the past year to $1.3 billion. Ahead of Monday's opening bell, for-profit education issue Apollo Group, Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apollo-group-inc/apol/nas">APOL</a>) is scheduled to unveil its fiscal second-quarter results. <br />

The company <a href="http://www.rttnews.com/ArticleView.aspx?Id=992056&amp;Category=Top%20story">raked in $201.1 million, or $1.26 per share</a> in the latest quarter, far better than $139.1 million, 85 cents per share a year ago. Not only did the company top last year's performance, but it also bested the Street's estimate for earnings of $1.12 per share on revenue of $1.04 billion.</p>
<p>Enrollment at the online college grew 22% on a year-over-year basis to 420,700 in the third quarter. The company's co-CEO Chas Edelstein noted, "We are please to report a record third quarter, driven largely by continuing increases in enrollments and improved student retention at University of Phoenix." The company's selling and promotional expenses increased during the quarter, but they declined as far as a percentage of net revenue.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/30/apollo-group-beats-the-q3-estimates-is-it-poised-for-a-breako/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apollo Group beats the Q3 estimates -- is it poised for a breakout?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/30/apollo-group-beats-the-q3-estimates-is-it-poised-for-a-breako/">Apollo Group beats the Q3 estimates -- is it poised for a breakout?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 09:40:00 EST. <p>The one report analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters seem to have the highest hopes for is that from <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apollo-group-inc/apol/nas">Apollo Group Inc.</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apollo-group-inc/apol/nas">APOL</a>), as people look to education to better position themselves to survive the economic slump. For its fiscal third quarter, during which <a href="http://money.aol.com/news/articles/qp/pr/_a/apollo-group-inc-names-gregory-w/rfid207939810">a new co-CEO was named</a>, the Phoenix, Ariz.-based educational services provider is expected to report a profit of $1.12 per share, which is 24.1% higher than a year ago. Revenue is expected to be 24.3% higher to $1.0 billion. The full-year forecast is currently for $3.97 per share (+28.5%) on sales of $3.9 billion (+24.4%). Earnings have topped expectations in the past four quarters, by as much as 13 cents per share. The long-term EPS growth forecast is 15.9%, which is double the industry average, and the forward PE ratio estimate is 15.0. The First Call consensus recommendation remains to buy APOL; InvestorPlace calls it <a href="http://www.investorplace.com/experts/louis_navellier/articles/gallery/best-and-worst-stocks-part6.html">a stock you can trust</a>. At $68.50, shares are down 10.6% since the beginning of the year, but they peeked above the 100-day moving average at the end of this week for the first time since March.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/28/the-week-in-preview-a-few-chances-for-pre-holiday-fireworks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: A few chances for pre-holiday fireworks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/28/the-week-in-preview-a-few-chances-for-pre-holiday-fireworks/">The week in preview: A few chances for pre-holiday fireworks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 28 Jun 2009 12:30:00 EST.
