Disney offers Cinderella's gown for your wedding

The bridal season is in full flower, and with it comes the official launch of Disney's new line of bridal gowns inspired by their characters including Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine, Ariel, and Sleeping Beauty. As we wrote about back in February, the Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) line, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, was created by noted bridal gown designer Kristie Kelly. Thirty-four different designs, priced from $1,100 to $3,500, were unveiled over the weekend during Bridal Week in New York.

Bridal gowns seem a logical extension to a couple of lucrative Disney enterprises. Their line of children's clothing based on characters has done extremely well. They also have a thriving Fairy Tale Weddings business offering their parks as locations for destination weddings.

Coming soon is a "Maids" line of bridesmaid's dresses, as well as bridal jewelry. All will be sold through bridal boutiques, rather than directly through the company.

Your prince has come in: Disney offers Princess gowns for big-girl weddings

Now, it has partnered with fashion designer Kirstie Kelly to offer a line of wedding gowns patterned after those of their most popular characters.

Among the icons featured in this line are Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine from Aladdin and the little mermaid Ariel. Disney plans to offer 34 designs in total for the introductory year. The line will be unveiled during Bridal Week in New York in April.

Disney has already struck gold with its line of character-inspired clothing and accessories for children, now selling close to $3.5 billion a year.

No mention was made of any garb for the groom, however. Why are we denied the chance to be wed wearing Prince Charming's natty sash, or that long, sleek sword of Sleeping Beauty's beau, or anyone's crown, even. Can't we at least get a frickin' crown?
