Option Traders Buying Rehabcare Calls and Atmel Puts

Option traders appear to be setting up for a bullish move on Rehabcare Group Inc. (RHB). Traders plowed into 2,192 new call option contracts -- 18.9 times the average volume -- on the stock on Tuesday. And we know that traders were eager to get into this trade because 100% of the trades came in on the ask price.

Rehabcare is sitting just above support at $16. The stock closed Tuesday at $16.56, up 23.16% during the past month.

"It was interesting to watch the pundits react to the iPad recently; even though none of them had used or even really understood the product, it seemed as though no one liked it following its first introduction," notes tech expert Paul McWilliams in his just-released review of the new tech device from Apple (AAPL).

In his Next Inning newsletter, he explains, "Of course, this was similar to how the pundits first reacted to the iPod when it was released. As the pundits trashed the iPad following its release, I reminded readers about the iPod story and predicted we would see the pundits about face and the stock price run up ahead of the product release."

Analyst upgrades, downgrades and initiations: YHOO, EW, BWY, BRO, BNI, FFIV, AOL, CYPB, ATML ...

Analyst Upgrades

  • Kaufman Bros. upgraded Yahoo! (YHOO) to buy from hold after channel checks indicated display advertising is seeing continued improvement in pricing and demand. The firm finds the risk/reward profile on Yahoo! shares attractive at current levels and raised its price target on the stock to $20 from $19.
  • Citigroup upgraded Edwards Lifesciences (EW) to buy from hold following the company's investor meeting as it believes new product launches will serve as catalysts in 2010. Citi raised its target on shares to $101 from $72.
  • Deutsche Bank upgraded BWAY Holding (BWY) to buy from hold following the company's Q4 results and raised its target on shares to $22 from $17.
  • Clearwire (CLWR) was upgraded to buy from sell at Soleil.
  • Nokia (NOK) was raised to hold from sell at Societe Generale.
  • NCR Corp. (NCR) was upgraded at JPMorgan to overweight from neutral.

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Danaher, United Parcel Service and Atmel were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Danaher (NYSE:DHR) was initiated with a Buy rating and $100 target at Banc of America. The firm believes the stock's premium valuation is warranted given the company's free cash flow performance and feels DHR's Emerging Medical platform is likely underappreciated by the Street.
  • United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) was assumed with a Market Perform rating at William Blair, as they believe the company is positioned favorably for long-term price appreciation.
  • Friedman Billings expects Atmel (NASDAQ:ATML) to pursue various actions to unlock shareholder value that include mix shift towards high-margin microcontroller products, reduced exposure to expensive manufacturing sites, and rationalizing its most profitable opportunities. The firm started shares with an Outperform rating and $6 target.
OTHER INITIATIONS:
  • Morgan Stanley assumed coverage of AutoZone (NYSE:AZO) with an Equal Weight rating.
  • Credit Suisse initiated Deltek (NASDAQ:PROJ) with an Overweight rating and $22 target.
  • Lehman started CME Group (NYSE:CME) with an Equal Weight rating.

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Atmel, Skyworks, Alcatel-Lucent, Parexel and Map Pharma were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Kaufman Bros. initiated Atmel (NASDAQ: ATML) with a Buy rating and $6 target, as they believe the company's increasing focus around its core microcontroller business can drive an improved growth and profitability profile going forward and would be buyers at current levels.
  • The firm also started shares of Skyworks (NASDAQ: SWKS) with a Buy rating and a $10 target, as they like the company's balanced customer positioning and find the stock attractively valued at current levels.
  • JP Morgan initiated Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) with an Overweight rating and believes the risks are more than fully priced into shares at current levels.
  • Parexel (NADSAQ: PRXL) was initiated with a Neutral rating at Broadpoint, as they believe the company's improved execution is already priced into shares.
  • Deutsche Bank finds shares of Map Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: MAPP) attractively valued given the opportunity from the company's two late stage product candidates, UDB and Tempo Migraine. The firm started shares off with a Buy rating and $19 target.
OTHER INITIATIONS:

Analyst initiations: U.S. media, oil services, MELI and ZINC

MOST NOTEWORTHY: The U.S. media sector, oil services, MercadoLibre and Horsehead Holdings were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Credit Suisse initiated coverage of the U.S. media sector with a Market Weight rating, shares of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) with an Outperform rating and shares of Time Warner Inc (NYSE: TWX) and Viacom Inc (NYSE: VIA.B) with Neutral ratings.
  • Bernstein initiated coverage of the oil services sector with a Positive Bias rating. The firm initiated Weatherford International Ltd (NYSE: WFT) with an Outperform rating and $84 target and Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL), Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI) and Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB) with Market Perform ratings and a $44 target, $103 target and $96 target, respectively.
  • MercadoLibre Inc (NASDAQ: MELI) was initiated by American Technology with a Buy rating and $45 target, as the firm believes the e-commerce growth opportunity in Latin America is still in its infancy. Shares were also started at Pacific Crest with an Outperform rating and $37 target, as the firm believes the company should benefit from strong secular growth and company-specific drivers. MercadoLibre was also initiated at JP Morgan with an Overweight rating and at Merrill Lynch with a Buy rating and $35 target.
  • Friedman Billings expects Horsehead Holding Corp's (NASDAQ: ZINC) EBITDA to increase even in a declining commodity environment and believes the company is well positioned to gain market share. Shares were started with an Outperform rating and $27 target also added to the firm's Top Pick List.
