Japan led things south with news that the nuclear reactors were not shut down and could pose serious risks ahead. This sent Japan's NIKKEI 225 down more than 6% and back under the dreaded 10,000 mark. US markets held up better than expected, while news that Saudi troops were being asked to enter into protect Bahrain's infrastructure sent oil back up. US markets came back from larger losses late in the session.
Investors will also eye several financial results, as well as a Treasury auction in light of the recent focus on yields. Meanwhile, continuing and mounting concerns over Greece's and Europe's debt crisis weighed on markets.
On Tuesday, U.S. stocks finished mixed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average remaining near 11,000. This was after minutes from the recent Fed policy meeting showed the phrasing "extended period" could mean vastly different periods depending on who's interpreting it.
Continue reading Before the Bell: Futures Dip Ahead of Bernanke Speech

Before the Bell: Futures Dip Ahead of Bernanke Speech originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 08:30:00 EST. As traders booked some gains concerns over Greece and the area's stability were renewed. In focus Tuesday are also the Federal Reserve's minutes from its recent meeting.

U.S. stocks and bonds reacted Monday to Friday's significant rise in nonfarm payroll. Traders pushed the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average near 11,000 to 10,974. The Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 also rose, while the 10-year Treasury yield reached 4% for the first time since June. It's not surprising then that investors may be more cautious Tuesday.
Continue reading Before the Bell: Futures Lower Ahead of Fed Minutes

Before the Bell: Futures Lower Ahead of Fed Minutes originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 06 Apr 2010 08:18:00 EST. TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says at least one country is getting it right when it comes to economic stimulus.

How in the heck can you get 16% industrial growth and lower-than-expected consumer price inflation? How is that possible? Yet that's what we saw from China last night, and that's a tonic to pretty much everyone who is waiting for our own stimulus to kick in.

And we need it.

On Monday, Fluor (FLR) (Cramer's Take), the giant construction company, when asked if it could quantify the value of stimulus dollars currently in backlog, said "Really, the only stimulus funding we have seen directly has been the award that we got at Savannah River for some nuclear soil remediation. And, it was, I would say, we're less than $0.5 billion."
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: China's industrial focus helps lots of U.S. names

Cramer on BloggingStocks: China's industrial focus helps lots of U.S. names originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 09:30:00 EST.
