The non-Farm Payrolls growth was only right before the ADP data and that more robust prediction artificially skewed expectations. The stock market was down less than 1% after the morning lows before recovering off lows in the afternoon. Crude oil sold off and gold was lower before trying a late-day comeback.
Here were the unofficial closing bell levels:
Dow Jones 11,674.76 -22.55 (-0.19%)
S&P 500 1,271.50 -2.35 (-0.18%)
Nasdaq 2,703.17 -6.72 (-0.25%)
The markets spent most of the day much higher, but profit taking and positions being lightened up seemed to take out the steam and the actual closing bell levels. A red or black day was not clear until the last few minutes. Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:

DJIA: 10,405.98 (+0.02%)
S&P500: 1,118.31 (+0.23%)
NASDAQ: 2,280.79 (+0.32%)
DNDN shares were down 5% in early trading on reports that the FDA review would take place, but since have risen more than 6%. DNDN opened this morning at $30.97. So far today the stock has hit a low of $30.81 and a high of $35.27. As of 12:50, DNDN is trading at $34.52 up $2.01 (6.2%). Maybe markets will go back to acting more on their internal fundamentals and their own technical patterns rather than that of the dollar or the price of oil, as crude closed under $70 and as stocks stayed strong. Inflation was rather tame at 0.7% in commodity imports if you take out the price of oil. Overseas market strength kept a solid floor under any selling attempts by bears today.

Here are the unofficial closing bell levels:

Dow 10,471.50 +65.67 (0.63%)
S&P 500 1,106.41 +4.06 (0.37%)
Nasdaq 2,190.31 -0.55 (-0.03%)

Top 10 Analyst Calls
Top 5 Day Trader Alerts
Continue reading Closing Bell: Stocks move away from dollar & oil (DNDN, FNM, SNSS, IMAX, RX, BA, ERTS)

Closing Bell: Stocks move away from dollar & oil (DNDN, FNM, SNSS, IMAX, RX, BA, ERTS) originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 11 Dec 2009 16:00:00 EST.
Goldman upgraded Aeropostale (ARO) to neutral from sell. The firm, which has a $34 target on the stock, cites the recent sell-off in shares for the upgrade.

Janney Montgomery upgraded Consolidated Water (CWCO) to buy from neutral on valuation and on expectations the company's earnings will recover in 2010. The firm has a $15 target on the stock.

Wunderlich upgraded Transmontaigne Partners (TLP) to buy from hold on valuation as it believes the sell-off on the company's Q3 results is overdone. The firm keeps a $26.50 price target on the stock.
