Synchronoss Looks to Break from the iPhone

Synchronoss Technologies (SNCR) provides a sophisticated platform -- called ConvergenceNow Plus+ -- that allows activations of mobile devices. It's standout customer is AT&T, Inc. (T), which uses the system for the iPhone. Needless to say, the growth has been strong.

Just look at the company's second quarter results. Revenues spiked 22% to $37.2 million, with about two-thirds coming from AT&T. Earnings came to $0.15 per share (when excluding special items). The consensus estimate was for $0.14 per share.

Droid X Smartphone Flies Off the Shelf

Talking to a friend last night, he told me that he was going to purchase the new Droid X. His main reason is that he's been a long-time Verizon (VZ) customer and doesn't want to switch networks. If Verizon offered Apple's (AAPL) iPhone, though, he would get that.

This thinking is certainly common. And it also shows that Verizon is likely to win whether it offers the iPhone or not.

Verizon's Droid X Takes Some Shots at the New iPhone

Verizon VZ logoIt's a common refrain: "I'll get an iPhone when it goes on the Verizon (VZ) platform." And Internet traffic proves it. According to searches on Google News, "Verizon iPhone" is the most searched query about Verizon.

Despite this, Verizon continues to focus on Google's (GOOG) Android operating system and is in the process of launching the Droid X (which should hit the market in about a week).
