That's mergers and acquisitions. They're all over the financial pages. Intel (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/intel-corporation/intc/nas">INTC</a>) is buying Infineon's wireless division for $1.4 billion so the chip manufacturer can diversify beyond computers. HP (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hewlett-packard-company/hpq/nys">HPQ</a>) or Dell (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/dell-inc/dell/nas">DELL</a>) will end up with 3PAR, a cloud-computing company, at a cost of $2 billion or more. Carl Icahn, the billionaire financier, is making a hostile tender bid for Lions Gate (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/lions-gate-entertainment-corp/lgf/nys">LGF</a>), the film and television producer. 3M (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/3m-company/mmm/nys">MMM</a>) is buying Attenti Holdings, an Israeli maker of remote monitoring technology used to track people, for $230 million. Exelon (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/exelon-corporation/exc/nys">EXC</a>) is picking up a division of Deere (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/deere-and-company/de/nys">DE</a>), a renewable energy unit, for about $900 million so it can enter the wind-power segment. Sanofi-Aventis (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sanofi-aventis-sa-ord/snynf/nao">SNYNF</a>) is trying to buy Genzyme (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/genzyme-corporation-genzyme-corporation-common-stock/genz/nas">GENZ</a>) but the board won't accept the bid of $18.5 billion. The board is open to better numbers. There are many more.</p>

(<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/deere-and-company/de/nys">DE</a>) announced that it will sell its wind energy business to a subsidiary of Exelon (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/exelon-corporation/exc/nys">EXC</a>). The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/deere-sells-wind-energy-business-for/1243737/">sale of John Deere Renewables</a> will net the firm $900 million and will allow DE to turn its focus back to producing farm equipment. <br />
<br />
Back in February, the company was looking at different options for its Renewables arm. DE will lose a bit of money in the exchange, as it invested roughly $1 billion in wind energy products during the past five years.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/31/deere-and-co-to-sell-wind-energy-unit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deere &amp; Co. to Sell Wind Energy Unit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/31/deere-and-co-to-sell-wind-energy-unit/">Deere &amp; Co. to Sell Wind Energy Unit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 31 Aug 2010 09:30:00 EST. Friday's positive close marked the forty-fifth calendar day that has elapsed since the Standard &amp; Poor's 500 stock index pulled back even a measly 1%. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.investorplace.com/education/articles/dow-11000-stock-market-rally.html?cp=bloggingstocks&amp;cc=synd&amp;cs=investorplace">The Dow even briefly reclaimed 11,000</a> before rolling back a hair away from the milestone figure at the close.<br />
<br />
If you were a visitor from another planet, you would be forgiven for concluding that the stock market always goes up. It certainly has seemed that way since February 23, when the market posted its last significant one-day drop.<br /><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/09/45-days-without-a-1-slide-equals-a-coming-correction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>45 Days Without a 1% Slide Equals a Coming Correction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/09/45-days-without-a-1-slide-equals-a-coming-correction/">45 Days Without a 1% Slide Equals a Coming Correction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 18:30:00 EST. Today, <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/exelon-corporation/exc/nys">Exelon Corp</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/exelon-corporation/exc/nys">EXC</a>) upped its hostile <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=acyG_uFo0aMw">bid</a> by 12% for <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nrg-energy-inc/nrg/nys">NRG Energy</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nrg-energy-inc/nrg/nys">NRG</a>). This new price tag translates into a valuation of $7.45 billion.</p>
<p>The wrangling between the companies has gone on for roughly eight months. In fact, hostile deals can be time-consuming (in some cases, lasting a couple years). </p>
<p>Something else: Exelon has indicated that this is the "best and final offer." Apparently, the company has realized new cost savings, which justifies the higher valuation.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/02/exelons-deal-for-nrg-gets-nuclear/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Exelon's deal for NRG gets nuclear</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/02/exelons-deal-for-nrg-gets-nuclear/">Exelon's deal for NRG gets nuclear</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 15:45:00 EST.
