General Mills: A Brief Look Before Earnings

On Wednesday, General Mills (GIS) will report earnings results for the fiscal third quarter. The cereal maker is expected to do okay. According to Earnings.com, net income is projected to be around 56 cents per share. If the company hits that number, then it will represent a decent bottom-line growth rate.

The stock has a couple things going in its favor. The 52-week high is currently set at $38.98. Shares closed on Monday at a price of $37.12, not far from the peak. In addition, the dividend yield of 3% is attractive.

AutoZone Fiscal Q2 Earnings Preview

Hershey Set to Report Q4 Numbers

Hershey (HSY) will be reporting results for the fourth quarter on Wednesday, February 2. The company behind the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and the Kit Kat candies isn't expected to grow its bottom-line performance, but should shareholders panic?

Probably not. Whether or not Hershey goes beyond the consensus estimate is, to some degree, not something for long-term investors to worry about. Last year at this time, net income came in at 63 cents per share. According to Earnings.com, this year's quarterly profit may drop by two pennies to 61 cents per share.

Microsoft (MSFT) will be reporting earnings for its fiscal second quarter after the bell on Thursday, January 27. I'm pretty excited about them, actually. I own shares of the software giant, and I may be interested in selling out if they show strength after the release.

Week in Preview: Final Economic Data of the Year

earnings expectationsEven as the year winds to a close this week, there are still a handful of economic releases on the schedule. Starting out on Monday, the Chicago Fed releases its Midwest Manufacturing Index for November.

Tuesday brings the final Consumer Confidence Index of the year, as well as the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index for October, the Richmond Fed's Business Surveys, and a look at chain store sales for the week leading up to Christmas.

Data on last week's initial jobless claims will be released on Thursday. And then Friday brings the New York NAPM Index and the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index.

Analysts are expecting the athletic apparel firm to report a third-quarter profit of 25 cents per share, up from 20 cents per share in the year-ago period. LULU has an impressive track record in the earnings spotlight, having exceeded Wall Street's consensus profit expectations in each of the past four quarters.

The stock has also established itself as a technical outperformer, with LULU rising 82.5% so far in 2010. This impressive ascent has been underlined by reliable support at the stock's 10-week, 20-week, and 50-week moving averages, which have guided LULU higher since July 2009.

HPQ Fourth Quarter EarningsTechnology giant Hewlett Packard Company (HPQ) will be reporting its fiscal fourth quarter results following the market close Monday, with analysts expecting to see earnings of $1.27 per share.

During the same period last year, the company had earnings of $1.14 per share.
