In our recent article titled <a href="https://www.trefis.com/company?article=38271">Sizing Up Egypt's Impact on Exxon</a>, we tried to give an idea of Egypt's importance for Exxon Mobil and how the unrest in the country could affect its stock price. We also discussed how the situation in Libya forced BP to start evacuating its staff from the country in our article <a href="https://www.trefis.com/company?article=41237#">Unrest in Libya Could Jeopardize BP Exploration Deal</a>. With the political unrest spreading to more countries over the past few weeks, this may be a bigger concern for Exxon Mobil and other oil &amp; gas majors worldwide. We have a <a href="https://www.trefis.com/company?hm=XOM.trefis">current price estimate of $78.97</a>, which is about 10% below the market price.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/28/assessing-jasmine-revolution-s-impact-on-exxon-mobil-production/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Assessing Jasmine Revolution's Impact on Exxon Mobil Production</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/28/assessing-jasmine-revolution-s-impact-on-exxon-mobil-production/">Assessing Jasmine Revolution's Impact on Exxon Mobil Production</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 28 Feb 2011 17:40:00 EST. Egypt is engulfed in a civil uprising and protesters are clamoring for President Hosni Mubarak to step down. Uncertainty is the new state of affairs. Uncertainty breeds fear and fear has taken over the energy sector.<br />
<br />
The chart guys quickly covered their shorts and now the bulls have the market. This is fundamental. Three million barrels of oil a day pass through the Suez Canal and the Sumed pipeline. You can throw the charts out the window.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/01/brent-crude-oil-holds-above-100-per-barrel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Brent Crude Oil Holds Above $100 per Barrel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/01/brent-crude-oil-holds-above-100-per-barrel/">Brent Crude Oil Holds Above $100 per Barrel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 01 Feb 2011 10:00:00 EST. <br />
All of this has its limits, but, if you are a fan of Professor Nassim NicholasTaleb and his best seller <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Swan_(Taleb_book)">The Black Swan</a> then you already have been warned that the events that have the greatest impact on our lives and our investments are most often unpredictable. We cannot predict the future nor can we anticipate the tragedies that will tank our portfolio's.<br />
<br />
While I do believe predicting the future is, how should I say, futile, there are general clues as to which way the wind blows.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/14/chasing-value-you-must-own-defense-and-oil-for-safety/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: You Must Own Defense and Oil for Safety</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/14/chasing-value-you-must-own-defense-and-oil-for-safety/">Chasing Value: You Must Own Defense and Oil for Safety</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 16:00:00 EST. The company is EZCorp (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/ezcorp-inc/ezpw/nas" class="inlinked">EZPW</a>), which beat the Street again with <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/ezcorp-reports-record-earnings/rfid383704742/?channel=pf">third quarter earnings</a> per share of $0.56, three cents better than the analyst estimate.</p>
<p>Revenue for the quarter was $198.2 million, which tops the estimate of $191.01 million. The company projects 2011 earnings higher too: <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Earnings%20Per%20Share%20-%20EPS">EPS</a> of about $2.35 vs. an estimate of $2.25. EZCorp grew earnings by 33% and increased its footprint by 127 stores through new construction and acquisitions.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/05/chasing-value-ezcorp-beats-apple/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: Apple's Great, but This Stock Is Better!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/05/chasing-value-ezcorp-beats-apple/">Chasing Value: Apple's Great, but This Stock Is Better!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 05 Nov 2010 12:00:00 EST. <p>The editor of <a href="http://www.dripinvestor.com">The DRIP Investor</a> explains, "In 2009, a record $375 billion of new money flooded into bond funds. Over the same period, domestic stock funds saw $40 billion go out the door.</p>
<p>And through the first half of 2010, taxable bond funds had net new cash flow of $136 billion versus outflows of $18.4 billion for domestic stock funds. This torrent of money has driven down the yields on bonds to microscopic levels.</p>

<br />
The oil spill that started back on April 20 when one of BP's offshore drilling platforms exploded continues to leak into the ocean, and could take up to another two months to stop. Following the accident, President Obama imposed a six-month moratorium on deep-water drilling and Congress is now trying to determine the likelihood of another disaster taking place.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/15/exxon-mobil-and-chevron-executives-say-bp-spill-unlikely-to-repe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Exxon Mobil and Chevron Executives Say BP Spill Unlikely to Repeat</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/15/exxon-mobil-and-chevron-executives-say-bp-spill-unlikely-to-repe/">Exxon Mobil and Chevron Executives Say BP Spill Unlikely to Repeat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:50:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) iPhone 4<strike>G</strike> from Steve Jobs yesterday, and while he was presenting the amazing device with 100 new features and 24% slimmer profile, the company stock was sinking. Actually, most stocks were sinking.<br />
<br />
The biggest reason for the stocks recent demise: the big cats decided it was time -- and others started to follow. There is nothing wrong with Apple at all and yesterday Jobs pushed out further in the race to produce the best product, stretching a lead he is intent on maintaining. I'm no Apple cheerleader having posted<a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/03/apple-300-not-this-year/" title="View Apple $300 -- Not This Year! on BloggingStocks" target="_blank"> Apple $300 -- Not This Year!</a> last February, when I thought the fanboys were confusing dreams with facts.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/08/apple-iphone-season-and-psychology-over-substance/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple iPhone: Season and Psychology over Substance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/08/apple-iphone-season-and-psychology-over-substance/">Apple iPhone: Season and Psychology over Substance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 14:00:00 EST. <br />
It is sad to learn of BP's poor adherence to basic safety precautions and the conflicts between managers on the drilling rig. It appears from the news reports that have trickled out that this mess was created by more than damaged equipment and poor decisions. The actual decision-making process on the leased Transocean (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/transocean-ltd-switzerland-common-stock/rig/nys">RIG</a>) platform was faulty from the beginning. Sadly BP is not alone in this regard -- just the most recently exposed.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/02/bp-may-disappear-while-trudging-through-its-own-sludge/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BP May Disappear While Trudging Through Its Own Sludge</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/02/bp-may-disappear-while-trudging-through-its-own-sludge/">BP May Disappear While Trudging Through Its Own Sludge</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 10:10:00 EST.
