(FRO), which I first discussed here on April 28, 2009 at a price of $19.17, continues to meander at/near $26.

A shipper and operator of very large crude carriers (VLCC) and Suezmax tankers, Frontline has been hindered by a volatile spot tanker market, as only about 25-27% of its work is tied to fixed-rate contracts.

Frontline should post a double-digit revenue increase in 2011, but that's contingent on several variables, including day rates, fleet utilization rates, and operating expenses, each of which could vary substantially. The possibility of oil production disruptions in Middle East nations stemming from political/social unrest adds another unknown variable for at least the quarter ahead, perhaps longer.
Continue reading Frontline Ltd: Continue to Stand Aside

Frontline Ltd: Continue to Stand Aside originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 22 Feb 2011 16:30:00 EST.
However, those investors who can tolerate high-risk can retain their full position and go for a possible larger gain.

Dayrates for the company's very large crude tankers (VLCCs) and Suezmax tankers rose to an average of $45,300 and $31,800 in the first quarter, respectively, up from $33,200 and $21,300 in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Continue reading Frontline: For High-Risk Investors, Only

Frontline: For High-Risk Investors, Only originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 14:00:00 EST. (FRO) which I first wrote about on April 28, 2009 at a price of $19.17, has finally entered smoother waters. And it's about time.

Dayrates for the company's very large crude tankers (VLCCs) and Suezmax tankers rose to $33,200 and $21,300 in the fourth quarter, respectively.

Further, the calculation here is that 2010 global GDP growth with be sufficient to maintain an adequate-to-high oil price of $60-80 per barrel. That should be enough to keep tanker dayrates firm. The economic bears argue sluggish GDP growth will weigh on oil demand, depressing oil's price, and thus reduce demand for tankers. As they say in The Bronx, N.Y., we'll believe it when we see it, hence the risk/return remains tipped in favor of an FRO position.
Continue reading Frontline's Stock Finally Enters Smoother Waters

Frontline's Stock Finally Enters Smoother Waters originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 18:00:00 EST. It's a close call, but I'm reiterating the buy rating.

Dayrates for very large crude containers and Suezmax tankers -- expected to firm late in 2009 -- did not, due to a large increase in the worldwide fleet and production cuts by OPEC. And analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters don't seem to be expecting too many turkeys among this week's bunch.

Leading U.S. meat processor Tyson Foods Inc. (TSN), which has just named a new chief executive officer and a new chief operating officer, is expected to report fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $0.26 per share, up from $0.14 in the same period of last year. But revenue is expected to total $6.9 billion, or 4.3% less than a year ago. The full-year forecast is for a profit of $0.25 per share (-16.7) on $26.4 billion (-3.9%) in sales. This dividend payer has offered upside surprises in the past two quarters, topping estimates by 11 cents per share in the third quarter.

Continue reading The week in preview: No turkey earnings from Tyson, Hormel, Cracker Barrel ...

The week in preview: No turkey earnings from Tyson, Hormel, Cracker Barrel ... originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sun, 22 Nov 2009 12:30:00 EST.
Bermuda-based Frontline Ltd. (NYSE: FRO) is anticipated by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters to be one of the biggest earnings gainers among companies scheduled to report quarterly results this coming week. The oil tanker fleet operator is expected to post third-quarter earnings of $1.97 per share, 86.8% higher than in the same period a year ago, on revenues of $399.5 million (+44.6%). Frontline missed estimates by 6.4% in the previous quarter, and the consensus recommendation by analysts is to hold FRO. While Motley Fool likes its robust dividend, Jim Cramer said in a recent Lightning Round that he prefers rival Nordic American Tanker Shipping Ltd. (NYSE: NAT). Shares have fallen 52.9% in the past three months, and reached a 52-week low of $25.00 on Friday.

Analog Devices Inc. (NYSE: ADI) is also expected to be among the week's biggest earnings gainers. Analysts are looking for the semiconductor chip maker to report a fiscal fourth-quarter profit of $0.44 per share, 31.8% higher than a year ago, on revenues of $661.7 million (+2.0%). Analog Devices has beat estimates in three of the past five quarters, but only missed by 1.3% in the previous quarter. Analysts on average recommend buying ADI, which has a forecast long-term EPS growth rate of 17.3%, which better than the S&P 500 and that of rival Texas Instruments Inc. (NYSE: TXN). The push for educating, housing, transporting and employing large young populations requires massive investment, fueling demand for commodities across the boards.

The supply side was completely taken unawares by this demand following the 20-year crushing bear market that cut exploration budgets to the bone.
"Frontline is doing a much better job of executing profits in the current market for transporting crude oil. FRO posted first quarter results that showed a jump in profits of 40%, with a dividend hiked to $2.75 for the quarter. That translates into a current annual yield of 18.25%. Even better, the company forecasts continued strength in operations and quarterly distributions.

"This kind of profit growth is a result of FRO being leveraged to the spot market for day charter rates for double-hull tankers. The company is by far-and-away the largest shipping company, with 76 vessels and a market cap of $4.4 billion.

Continue reading Frontline (FRO): The 'mac daddy' of oil transports

Frontline (FRO): The 'mac daddy' of oil transports originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 12:49:00 EST. Given oil's importance in a growing global economy, oil and oil services companies are likely to continue to experience steady demand for their services/products. And with the above in mind, Frontline Ltd. is worth an evaluation.

Frontline Ltd. (NYSE: FRO) operates about 75 tankers, under primarily short-term contracts, with a total capacity of more than 18.5 million deadweight tons.

FRO's tankers are designed to transport oil, and, as a result of their size, transport the world's most vital commodity from the Middle East Gulf to the Far East, Northern Europe, the Caribbean, and the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port. FRO's Suezmax tankers operate primarily in the Atlantic basin. The company also transports coal and iron ore.

Continue reading Frontline Ltd.: Profiting with short-term contracts over long hauls

Frontline Ltd.: Profiting with short-term contracts over long hauls originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 12 Jun 2008 16:55:00 EST.
