Priceline.com (
PCLN), the name-your-own-price travel website, reported on Monday pro-forma
first-quarter earnings of $1.70 per share, more than doubling the results from last year's same quarter. Analysts had expected first-quarter earnings of $1.66 per share.
So it makes sense that the stock absolutely tanked in after-hours trading, right? Yes, considering the fact that PCLN issued a weak second-quarter forecast. The company expects pro-forma, second-quarter earnings of $2.50 to $2.70 per share. The top-end of the projected range is well short of Wall Street's forecast earnings of $2.83 per share.
