If the summer months and historical data continue, then yes. The U.S. automaker is about to discuss its U.S. sales results for last month here in a few minutes. Ford just released its August numbers to the tune of a 14% decline year over year. Will GM see the same?

GM's product lineup is solid and getting better, for Ford seems to be ahead in the customer's mind if you ask me. With the company scaling back truck production this year in a pretty significant way (on its most profitable segment), what is in store for the automaker for the remainder of 2007? Perhaps we'll get a glimpse here in a few seconds.

Remember to use the "Refresh" button on your web browser to see all the minute-by-minute updates to the liveblog below. It'll be interesting to see if GM sees a decline in August sales (I'm betting it will) in comparison to Toyota's August sales increase in the U.S. All times are in EST.
Continue reading Liveblogging GM's August U.S. sales results

Liveblogging GM's August U.S. sales results originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 14:00:00 EST. What is in store for the world's second-largest automaker? Consensus analyst estimated peg GM's Q1 earnings per share figure at an average of $0.90, with a range of $0.47 to $1.30. That range is certainly all over the map, and the automaker's delay in filing sure has guesses running around.

As Jonathan noted earlier today, GM's Q1 figures were, well, not impressive. Q1 profit fell to $62 million on the backs of GM's mortgage business (GMAC), which has been dragged down as the housing mortgage business semi-implodes (made possible by subprime loans).

GM's Q1 revenue was expected to be about $40.88 billion in automotive sales, but the actual figure came in at $43.9 billion. The EPS figure was down sharply though from estimates at $0.17 -- quite a bit off the $0.90 mark. What will GM have to say about it all? Stay tuned below and find out. Remember to use the "Refresh" key on your keyboard to see all the updates every few minutes. All times below are in EST.

9:30am -- waiting on the GM Q1 call to begin...

9:32am -- call is starting with all the usual "forward-looking statements" and all the other garb.

9:34am -- the generalities of GM's Q1 period are being glossed over by GM exec Frtiz Henderson. That range is certainly all over the map, and the automaker's delay in filing sure has guesses running around.

Will GM get to the $0.90 mark for Q1? We will all see, as I will be liveblogging the conference call this Thursday at 8:30am. If GM makes that mark, it would be quite a rise (almost 250%) from the year-ago EPS figure of $0.32 for 2006's Q1 period. U.S. auto stocks are already up even today in anticipation of GM's earnings Thursday, so sentiment is leaning towards a good Q1 for the automaker.

GM's Q1 revenue is expected to be about $40.88 billion in automotive sales, which would be down from a $43.4 billion in the year-ago quarter. However, earnings are expected to be quite a bit more, reflecting GM's cost controls that have probably been the largest focus in the last year as it had to wring out more profit from each vehicle sold in the midst of fluctuating gas prices.
General Motors Q1 earnings preview originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 01 May 2007 13:11:00 EST.
