One is share price appreciation, and the other dividend payments. Investors experienced the first with a powerful stock rally in the past year and half. Now, its time for dividends to play a part, writes <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/stocks/2011-04-01-dividends-increase.htm#">Rachel Beck of the Associated Press</a>.<br />
<br />
When the meltdown occurred, companies pushed the fear button and hoarded cash, now amounting to $940 billion, Beck writes. It struck one in the late 1980s and another in 2006. So far, the strategy has generated huge returns for investors. <br />

And yes, today HCA hit the public markets again. In all, the company raised $3.79 billion -- which makes it the biggest private equity IPO ever. Due to the long-term nature of asset servicing contracts, BNY Mellon is likely to give discounts on servicing fees in the short run to attract more clients. Some hedge funds sold out their positions. Analysts were on the tape saying that gold has lost its luster and is ready for a fall. </p>
<p>Now, today, you look at the gold price and it's up. $15.80 at $1,364 per ounce. And you are wondering what's going on. You look at today's news and you read that China has just raised interest rates. So as a trader you decide to sell the gold short because gold does not like higher interest rates. Wrong! The market turned around like a vengeance. By noon it was up $13.00. It wasn't logical, but it happened anyway. The shorts quickly covered their positions.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/08/gold-moves-sharply-higher-on-inflation-worries-and-a-weaker-doll/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gold Moves Sharply Higher on Inflation Worries and a Weaker Dollar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/08/gold-moves-sharply-higher-on-inflation-worries-and-a-weaker-doll/">Gold Moves Sharply Higher on Inflation Worries and a Weaker Dollar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 08 Feb 2011 16:30:00 EST. An internal e-mail from a high-level risk management officer within JPM reported that another bank executive "just told me that there is a well-known cloud over the head of Madoff and that his returns are speculated to be part of a Ponzi scheme." Despite the suspicions, JPM continued to allow Madoff to move billions of dollars of his investors' cash in and out of his Chase bank accounts until he was arrested for the Ponzi scheme in December 2008. If you think this cloud of suspicion could keep a cap on JPM's stock price in the coming months, then it could be a good time to look at a bearish hedged play on JPM.<br />
<br />
This morning, JPM opened at $45.00. So far today the stock has hit a high of $45.17 and a low of $44.50. As of 12:20, JPM is trading at $44.65, down $0.81 (-1.7%). The chart for JPM looks bullish and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline">S&amp;P</a> gives JPM a positive 4 STARS (out of 5) buy ranking.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/jpmorgan-chase-trading-lower-due-to-madoff-allegations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>JPMorgan Chase Trading Lower Due to Madoff Allegations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/jpmorgan-chase-trading-lower-due-to-madoff-allegations/">JPMorgan Chase Trading Lower Due to Madoff Allegations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Feb 2011 14:00:00 EST. Of course he is. Anyone with common sense knows that if you give $600 billion cash to the banks with no qualifications -- as he did with the second round of quantitative easing -- they will use it to speculate in the markets. JPMorgan Chase (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys" class="inlinked">JPM</a>) just bought <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/13/copper-sets-new-record-high/">$1 billion of copper</a>.</p>
<p>Bernanke's fatal mistake was that he placed no restrictions on what the banks would do with his $600 billion. If you opened the banks' books, you can bet that they've invested in commodities, currencies and foreign equities and bonds.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/bernanke-denies-causing-inflation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bernanke Denies Causing Inflation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/bernanke-denies-causing-inflation/">Bernanke Denies Causing Inflation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Feb 2011 13:30:00 EST. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters foresee strong reports from such big names as Apple (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas" class="inlinked">AAPL</a>), eBay (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/ebay-inc/ebay/nas" class="inlinked">EBAY</a>), IBM (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/international-business-machines-corporation/ibm/nys">IBM</a>), General Electric (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys" class="inlinked">GE</a>), Google (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>), Schlumberger (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/schlumberger-ltd-netherlands-antilles/slb/nys" class="inlinked">SLB</a>) and Southwest Airlines (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/southwest-airlines-co/luv/nys" class="inlinked">LUV</a>). And fast on the heels of last week's <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/jpmorgan-earnings-the-return-of-big-bank-profits/19801174/">big earnings beat</a> from JPMorgan Chase (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys" class="inlinked">JPM</a>), there will be plenty more results from the financial sector to peruse this week.</p>
<p>Among the financials expected to post double-digit earnings growth this week are Capital One Financial (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/capital-one-financial-corporation/cof/nys" class="inlinked">COF</a>), Morgan Stanley (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/morgan-stanley/ms/nys" class="inlinked">MS</a>), SLM Corp. The reality is that most equity markets were up around the globe today as investors are getting more of an appetite for risk. Even a Freddie Mac outlook for 2011 with higher interest rates and a 'narrower' budget deficit of $80 billion in December failed to temper optimism. <br />

Here's a quick look at what analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect to see, followed by a glance at what's coming up on the economic calendar.</p>
<p><strong>Alcoa</strong></p>
<p>During its fourth quarter, Alcoa saw increased <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/emerging-markets-driving-aluminum-demand/rfid387654301/?channel=pf">demand in emerging markets</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/press/alcoa-surplus-properties-offered-at-higgenbotham-auction/rfid379216555/?channel=pf">sold surplus properties</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/alcoa-holds-investor-day/rfid385516631/?channel=pf">shared revenue targets</a> with investors. Analysts forecast that earnings for the period will come to 19 cents per share, up from just a penny per share in the same quarter of last year. The New York-based aluminum producer also is expected to post revenue of $5.7 billion for the three months that ended in December, which is 4.5% more than a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/week-in-preview-alcoa-intel-jpmorgan-kick-off-new-earnings-se/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Alcoa, Intel, JPMorgan Kick Off New Earnings Season</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/09/week-in-preview-alcoa-intel-jpmorgan-kick-off-new-earnings-se/">Week in Preview: Alcoa, Intel, JPMorgan Kick Off New Earnings Season</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 09 Jan 2011 12:30:00 EST. It has filed statements with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Owner Jeff Weiner told Reuters that he has selected Morgan Stanley (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/morgan-stanley/ms/nys" class="inlinked">MS</a>), Bank of America (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/bank-of-america-corporation/bac/nys" class="inlinked">BAC</a>) and JP Morgan (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys" class="inlinked">JPM</a>) as book runners. <br />

They argue that the big caps have lagged the market for the past decade and are now poised to take the lead, as reported by <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/40880312">CNBC.com</a>.</p>

One episode that comes to mind is the attempt by the Hunt brothers of Texas to corner the silver market in the 1970s.</p>
<p>Now we have another strange occurrence. The <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704118504576034083436931412.html?KEYWORDS=copper"><em>Financial Times</em></a> reported that one trader holds 80% to 90% of the copper in the London Metals Exchange (LME) warehouses, valued at about $3 billion. We do know that JPMorgan Chase (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys" class="inlinked">JPM</a>) is a big player in the copper market. Whether JPMorgan increased its holdings is not known.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/24/single-trader-dominates-copper-in-london-metals-exhange/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Single Trader Dominates Copper in London Metals Exchange</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/24/single-trader-dominates-copper-in-london-metals-exhange/">Single Trader Dominates Copper in London Metals Exchange</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 24 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST.
