Closing Bell: Geopolitics Trumps Holiday Joy (BRCD, JCG, HRBN, NFLX, DYN, BX, JACK)
Today was a rough day on mostly geopolitical risks and fears. We had another military skirmish reporting round from the Koreas, and that sent bonds higher with stocks lower. Then a FOMC meeting that smells of currency manipulation and official dissent inside the FOMC did nothing to add more confidence. Lastly, Irish banking woes and European concern added pressure as well. Many investors still have big gains and some have decided to lock-in. Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:
Dow Jones 11,036.37 -142.21 (-1.27%)
S&P 500 1,180.73 -17.11 (-1.43%)
Nasdaq 2,494.95 -37.07 (-1.46%)

Can Burger King's 'Brunch' Menu Take Bite out of McDonalds?
Burger King (BKC) is turning up the heat in its war with McDonalds (MCD) for early morning sales. In selected markets, Burger King is advertising the availability of a "Burger King brunch" in a quest to cash in on lucrative morning sales. Jack in the Box may not be a trade after Q4 report
Jack in the Box (JACK) dropped in yesterday's after-hours session upon news of the company's Q4 results. You can't blame the bottom line for the poor stock performance. The fast-food joint earned 70 cents per share from continuing operations versus the 45 cents per share from continuing operations earned in the comparable quarter. Did such a growth rate deserve a nearly 6% cut in share price? Analysts were only looking for 55 cents per share, according to Earnings.com.
Well, Wall Street apparently wasn't satisfied with the outlook, as this Reuters article points out. Traders are obviously more concerned with where Jack in the Box may be heading as opposed to where it's been.

Back to school with Jack Welch
What's retirement? Well, as should be no surprise, the legendary former CEO of GE (NYSE: GE), Jack Welch, is redefining the concept. Basically, retirement means working on cool projects. For example, he recently put together -- with his wife Suzy -- a reality show on MSN.com. It's about the travails of running a business. Oh, and it's also about branded content; that is, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) pitches its technology on the show.
