These days, his financial aspirations seem to be a little less high finance. Actually, a lot less. The Globe and Mail reports that Stottlemyre "wants Canadians to join his network at ACN, a multi-level marketing company that promises an ongoing stream of commissions for members who manage to convince friends and associates to buy telecom services through them from companies such as Telus Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc."
Continue reading Todd Stottlemyre Looks to Cash in with Multi-Level Marketing

Todd Stottlemyre Looks to Cash in with Multi-Level Marketing originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 10:30:00 EST. The American Bankruptcy Institute predicts that the tally could hit 1.4 million by the end of the year. So, although there are some experts signaling that the economy is on the upswing, the downstream effects of bankruptcy on consumer spending and corporate balance sheets are going to make it difficult for the market to turn the corner.

In July, more than 126,000 people filed for bankruptcy protection, and the filing rate was up 36.5% for the first six months of 2009 relative to the same period in 2008. The problem is affecting every rung of the social ladder.

Continue reading Consumer bankruptcies set to surge

Consumer bankruptcies set to surge originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 11 Aug 2009 09:00:00 EST. Dykstra filed for bankruptcy last week and then followed that up with a CNBC interview that made Sarah Palin's Katie Couric adventure look like the Gettysburg Address.

Stewart dug up a clip of Cramer lavishing praise on the former New York Met as "one of the great ones" in the investment business.
Continue reading Jon Stewart slams Cramer over Lenny Dykstra bankruptcy

Jon Stewart slams Cramer over Lenny Dykstra bankruptcy originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 17:20:00 EST. It's hard not to feel bad for him -- it's been an MC Hammer-like rise and fall, and I can't even imagine what that's like to go through. But why the heck would he go on CNBC to offer such incoherent rambling? Why would his lawyers let him do this?

Now The New York Post chimes in with more disturbing news about Dykstra's financial affairs. Dykstra has total debt of around $50 million and isn't paying up. He's being sued by a cavalcade of former business associates who claim he never paid them for services performed, and he even allegedly convinced a flight attendant to put a $10,600 flight on her credit card for him and then failed to reimburse her. He's being sued by his literary agent too, who says Dykstra never repaid him for money he lent him.

Continue reading More bad news for Lenny Dykstra

More bad news for Lenny Dykstra originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sun, 10 May 2009 18:40:00 EST. Forbes speculated that Dykstra wasn't coming up with his own trading ideas back in June. His wife filed for divorce on April 16th, his mansion has a property tax lien on it, and former employees have accused him of not paying them. Last month Luxist reported that his home was facing foreclosure. His planned magazine "The Players Club" never got off the ground and, oh yeah -- he was named in The Mitchell Report as a suspected user of steroids during his playing days.
Continue reading TheStreet.com dumps Lenny Dykstra

TheStreet.com dumps Lenny Dykstra originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 01 May 2009 17:00:00 EST. A 2006 look at his background in Fortune summed his market experience up this way: "After his mutual funds tanked, Lenny Dykstra leaned on some heavy hitters to transform him from an ex-major leaguer to a minor-league stock picker. At the time, he was talking to the reporter about a stock he owned called Lipid Sciences (NASDAQ: LIPD), which has steadily declined in value since that article. It was the only stock he owned.

Outside of his columns and appearances on CNBC, Mr. Dykstra's media attention has been less than positive. His name appears 28 times in the Mitchell Report on steroid use in baseball, but he declined to speak with Mitchell's team. In an affidavit, for Major Leaguer and steroid user Jason Grimsley accused Dykstra of using steroids.

Continue reading Lenny Dykstra, stock market expert?

Lenny Dykstra, stock market expert? originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 16:38:00 EST.
Today, Oklahoma is known as one of the most business-friendly states, due in part to low tax rates. Oklahoma's economy is based largely on the energy, aviation, and food processing sectors. From 2000 to 2006, Oklahoma's gross domestic product increased 50 percent. The GDP per capita grew almost 10 percent between 2005 and 2006, one of the highest rates in the nation.

Fortune magazine's 2007 list of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. included six from Oklahoma. At number three on the list was Tulsa-based Arena Resources Inc. (NYSE: ARD), a seven-year old oil and gas firm with a three-year annual growth rate of 165 percent. Back in August, Arena announced strong second quarter 2007 financial and operating results. Arena is also a major holding in the Bruce Fund, which recently made the 2007 Forbes Honor Roll.

Tulsa-based oil and gas driller Helmerich & Payne Inc. (NYSE: HP) had a three-year annual growth rate of 37 percent, which beat the S&P 500. In August, H&P announced strong second quarter 2007 results, as well as two new contracts. In the late 1920s, it was stock market chatter at the local barbershop that was an indication of stock market excesses. In the 1990s, The Beardstown Ladies, an Illinois-based investment club filled with seniors, graced the covers of news publications.

What about this bull market? It appears it is jock stock pickers. Lenny Dykstra, of the 1986 New York Mets World Series championship team, writes for the TheStreet.com in its News & Analysis section. What does Lenny write about? The buying and selling of options on semiconductor and related stocks. Wow! That's not too risky.

It is time to take all those MBA diplomas and throw them out the window. Forget Graham & Dodd and the Efficient Market Hypothesis, go out and sell naked puts with Lenny Dykstra.
Stock pickers: Happy days are here again originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 31 May 2007 15:50:00 EST.
