That, in a nutshell, is the International Monetary Fund's stance regarding the global economy's condition in Q1 2010, as IMF First Deputy Managing Director John Lipsky said developed economies face "acute" challenges in confronting high debt, Bloomberg News reported.

Continue reading IMF Urges G-7 Deficit Reduction via Pension, Health Care Reform

IMF Urges G-7 Deficit Reduction via Pension, Health Care Reform originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 22 Mar 2010 17:30:00 EST. Wang told BloggingStocks Thursday he agreed with Lipsky's categorization of the most-recent rise in inflation but added that government subsidies may prevent a pullback in commodity prices, especially oil. Classic economic theory holds that as the price of a good rises, people will use less of it. However, governments in China, Venezuela and the Middle East, among other nations, subsidize gasoline/fuel, lowering its cost, which discourages conservation, Wang said. The United States does not subsidize motor fuel at the federal level, but individual states do subsidize heating oil/natural gas for low-income citizens.
Continue reading IMF's Lipsky says repeat of 1970s stagflation unlikely

IMF's Lipsky says repeat of 1970s stagflation unlikely originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 08 May 2008 12:52:00 EST.
