The tech firm was more than 3% lower before the bell thanks to a downgrade from Goldman Sachs. The brokerage cut MU to neutral from buy. Goldman noted that it "underestimated the impact tablets would have on the PC supply chain, with tablets cannibalizing notebooks faster and to a greater degree than we [the brokerage] had expected." Goldman Sachs also stated that MU was negatively impacted by Inotera's delay of its 50mm transition.

Continue reading Goldman Sachs Downgrades Micron Technology

Goldman Sachs Downgrades Micron Technology originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 15 Sep 2010 11:00:00 EST. The other notion is that employment trends remained muted as a follow-on to last week's weak employment data. On an interesting side-bar, gold is losing its luster as a safety trade... probably because the price has become ridiculous in dollar terms and any other currency-related terms. A late day recovery kept most markets in the black for the day.
Or was it failing consumer confidence? It started out as the G-20, and then it was added to by the latter. The markets saw significant selling pressure, and the biggest concern now is that Friday's unemployment and non-Farm payrolls data will be even worse than expected.
Today, the stock is doing horribly. During the afternoon trading session, shares were off by well over 12%. A quote of $8.73 went by my screen at one point. Not good, especially considering the conviction of the volume.

Of course, one wonders: is this a buying opportunity? According to TheFly, Wedbush thinks so. As for me, I'm not so certain. Yes, I look at the sell-off, and I recognize the potential for a next-day bounce, or a bounce a few days from now. It happens.
Continue reading Micron Way Down Following Earnings Release

Micron Way Down Following Earnings Release originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 29 Jun 2010 14:10:00 EST. We started out strong with overseas trading in stocks, but the G20 debt cut pledge seems unbelievable and is still in the years ahead rather than today. Judges upheld Sarbanes-Oxley, except for one issue, which was an attack against the measure of corporate governance. Financial regulatory reform may have just run into another snag after Senator Robert Byrd, a democrat from West Virgina, died at the age of 92 ahead of a key vote this week. Consumer spending also rose 0.2%, but income rose 0.4%, and that is being taken somewhat cautiously, despite being positive.

Collins Stewart upgraded BP (BP) to buy from hold after the company canceled its dividend payments and agreed to put $20 billion in a claims escrow fund.

The firm raised estimates given expectations for strong demand and lower costs and believes pricing upside for Q2/Q3 is not reflected in valuation.

Argus upgraded EMC (EMC) to buy from hold, citing valuation and notes that the company's VMware (VMW) stake is undervalued.

Rio Tinto (RTP) was upgraded to buy from hold at Societe Generale.

Sunoco (SUN) was upgraded to overweight from equal weight at Barclays.

UBS (UBS) was upgraded to outperform from underperform at Macquarie.
