<p>The company is due to report its current earnings prior to the market open, and going into tomorrow's report analysts are looking to see the company show 49 cents per share on $3.15 billion in revenues. The housing slump over the past year has definitely been hurting hotel operators, so it will be interesting to see what kind of quarter Marriott is able to show to its investors. </p>
<p>The last time the hotel chain released <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?ticker=MAR&amp;coid=108017&amp;client=cb" target="_blank">its quarterly numbers</a> was back on April 17, when it matched analyst estimates for its first quarter with 33 cents per share. The stock made a brief rally following the release, but over the past month has been in a solid downward trend.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/07/09/marriot-mar-second-quarter-earnings-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marriot (MAR) second quarter earnings preview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/07/09/marriot-mar-second-quarter-earnings-preview/">Marriot (MAR) second quarter earnings preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 15:13:00 EST. <p><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/ing-groep-n-v/ing/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">Ing Groep</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/ing-groep-n-v/ing/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">ING</a>) is certainly best of breed. The bank is very well run, and has not had to write off too much for subprime. It is currently trading with a dividend yield of 5.2% and has a tiny PEG of 0.77. This is a stock that Tom Brady can take to the bank.</p>
<p><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/host-hotels-and-resorts-inc/hst/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">Host Hotels and Resorts</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/host-hotels-and-resorts-inc/hst/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">HST</a>), formerly Host Marriott, the largest hotel real estate investment trust (REIT) in the US, owns some 120 luxury and upscale hotels in North America. Most of its hotels operate under the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton brands and are managed by sister firm Marriott International. Other brands include Four Seasons and Hyatt. It is currently trading with a 4.9% dividend yield and very close to the 52-week low. As the economy starts exiting the slow growth mode, it should do well.</p>

<ul>
    <li>A.G. Edwards downgraded three hotels, citing valuation for their rationale: <strong>Starwood Hotels</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/starwood-hotels-and-resorts-worldwide-inc/hot/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">HOT</a>), <strong>Hilton Hotels</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/hilton-hotels-corporation/hlt/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">HLT</a>) and <strong>Marriot Int'l</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/marriott-international-inc/mar/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">MAR</a>) were downgraded to Hold from Buy. </li>
    <li>Bernstein downgraded <strong>Analog Devices</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/analog-devices-inc/adi/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">ADI</a>) to Market Perform from Outperform; they are cautious on the strategy, execution and overall risk/reward profile of the company. </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>OTHER DOWNGRADES:</strong> </p>
<ul>
    <li>Brean Murry downgraded two retailers to Sell from Hold today: <strong>Claire's Stores</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/claires-stores-inc-fl/cle/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">CLE</a>) and <strong>Aeropostale</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/aeropostale-inc/aro/nys?from=lookup">ARO</a>). The firm believes Claire's recent upside was due to speculation of a buyout, which they feel is unlikely, while Aeropostale's downgrade was based on the "50% off-the-store", which should limit the potential benefits. </li>
    <li>Finally, <strong>US Steel Group</strong> (NYSE:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/united-states-steel-corporation/x/nys">X</a>) was downgraded to Hold from Buy at Soleil, citing valuation.</li>
