Analyst initiations: AMD, INTC, NTCT, GUID and NDAQ

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Advanced Micro Devices, Intel Corporation, Netscout Systems, Guidance Software and Nasdaq were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Morgan Stanley started shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NYSE: AMD) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) with Underweight ratings and a $11 target and $22 target, respectively. The firm recommends selling shares of both as they expect an inventory correction and increasingly aggressive price environment.
  • Kaufman Brothers initiated shares of Netscout Systems Inc (NASDAQ: NTCT) with a Buy rating and $13.50 target. The firm is positive on the Network General acquisition and believes successful integration as well as continued improvement in sales execution will drive shares higher.
  • Roth Capital resumed coverage of Guidance Software Inc (NASDAQ: GUID) with a Buy rating and $15 target and said the company is the market leader for digital forensics and that new regulations have accelerated electronic discovery in the forensic market.
  • Jefferies started shares of The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc (NASDAQ: NDAQ) with a Buy rating and $45 target and believes the company's relative underperformance over the past two years creates an attractive entry point as earnings are poised to accelerate.

Analyst downgrades 5-03-07: BBI, CVC and NDAQ

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Cablevision Systems Corp (CVC), Nasdaq Stock Market Inc (NDAQ), Greenbrier Cos (GBX), Southern Copper Corp (PCU) and Hawaiian Holdings (HA) were today's noteworthy downgrades:
  • Oppenheimer downgraded shares of Cablevision Systems Corp (NYSE: CVC) to Neutral from Outperform and does not expect a higher bid to emerge.
  • Matrix cut Greenbrier Cos (NYSE: GBX) to Sell from Hold on the belief that slowing demand for double-stack and forest products rail cars is leading to slowing revenues.
  • Credit Suisse downgraded Southern Copper (NYSE: PCU) to Underperform from Outperform based on valuation.
  • Goldman cut Hawaiian Holdings (AMEX: HA) to Sell from Neutral based on weak fundamentals and increased liquidity concerns.
OTHER DOWNGRADES:
  • Morgan Stanley downgraded UBS AG (NYSE: UBS) to Underweight from Equal Weight.

Analyst downgrades 3-02-07: Disappointing Dell dowgraded to Hold

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Today's more notable downgrades included Dell Inc (DELL), Deutsche Telekom ADS (DT) and the Nasdaq Stock Market Inc (NDAQ):
  • Needham downgraded Dell inc (NASDAQ: DELL) to Hold from Buy after the Q4 results as they now believe the company is unlikely to outperform for "at least" several quarters. They considered Dell's notebook shipments to be the biggest disappointment in the quarter.
  • Deutsche Telecom ADS (NYSE: DT) was cut to Sell from Neutral at Merrill Lynch.
  • JP Morgan downgraded the Nasdaq Stock Market Inc (NASDAQ: NDAQ) to Neutral from Overweight following the company's price cuts as they feel the new prices negatively impact the U.S. cash equity business.
OTHER DOWNGRADES:
  • Baird cut Xerium Technologies Inc (NYSE: XRM) to Underperform from Neutral, citing increased spending plans and pressure from the underlying paper market that raised dividend sustainability concerns.
  • First Albany downgraded Hyperion Solutions Corp (NASDAQ: HYSL) to Neutral from Buy.
  • Sanders Morris cut Crosstex Energy (NASDAQ: XTEX) to Hold from Buy. Raymond James downgraded shares of Crosstex to Market Perform from Outpeform.
  • Bernstein downgraded TXU Corp (NYSE: TXU) to Market Perform from Outperform as the firm believe the current bid from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Texas Pacific Group will succeed.
  • Merrill Lynch cut Altera Corp (NASDAQ: ALTR) to Neutral from Buy.
