Nearly <a href="http://www.investorplace.com/experts/jeff_reeves/google-goog-android-apple-aapl-iphone-rimm-blackberry.html?cp=bloggingstocks&amp;cc=synd&amp;cs=investorplace">twice as many consumers are using Android-based phones</a> now compared with three months ago, according to a recent survey by ChangeWave Research.</p>
<p>That's no fun for Apple, of course, but survey results show that the tech giant is still holding its own with high customer satisfaction and a larger share of the market. Without <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/19/palm-this-is-your-survival-guide/">following some sound advice</a> from non-CEOs, the company -- which at one point was the premier smartphone company -- may be headed to shutterville faster than 2012. A 10% unemployment reading and a <a href="http://247wallst.com/2010/01/08/non-farm-payrolls-doesnt-make-the-grade/">loss of 85,000 non-farm payrolls</a> for December was not enough. The drop in the dollar earlier today (based on the FOMC being able to keep a zero-rate) may have been the only thing that kept more profit taking by stock trading from coming. Of course, he is a member of the Palm (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/palm-inc-new/palm/nas">PALM</a>) board of directors, and his firm is an investor in the company. </p>
<p>Did I mention that PALM shot up after his comment, before the mediocre and overpriced Pre hit the market? The company then issued shares a few days later? You and I would go to jail for doing this.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/27/lie-11-the-palm-pre-is-the-ultimate-iphone-killer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lie #11: The Palm Pre Is the Ultimate iPhone Killer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/27/lie-11-the-palm-pre-is-the-ultimate-iphone-killer/">Lie #11: The Palm Pre Is the Ultimate iPhone Killer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 27 Dec 2009 17:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/palm-inc-new/palm/nas">PALM</a>) seemed like a company with a solid comeback plan last summer. After more than a year of downward spiraling, the company was on the verge of releasing its hottest product probably ever, the Palm Pre. This was supposed to be the wireless handset that would finally challenge the Apple (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) iPhone with it's slick user interface and svelte design.</p>
<p>Sales of the Pre in recent quarters were indeed decent, although Palm's decision to choose Sprint Nextel (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sprint-nextel-corporation/s/nys">S</a>) as its exclusive launch partner may have dampened things a bit. Although Sprint's network, at this time, fares way better than AT&amp;T's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/t/nys">T</a>) network that is constantly being made fun of, the Pre still didn't slow down iPhone purchases.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/22/where-is-palm-headed-after-the-hype-from-last-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Where Is Palm Headed After the Hype from Last Summer?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/22/where-is-palm-headed-after-the-hype-from-last-summer/">Where Is Palm Headed After the Hype from Last Summer?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 22 Dec 2009 13:00:00 EST. Yet shares stayed strong. Options expiration dates and a S&amp;P rebalance brought in some added volatility and money managers are now scared to tell their clients that they are not all-in on stocks. Although the company's Treo handheld wireless handset products are being beat into the ground by competitors like <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/research-in-motion-limited/rimm/nas">Research in Motion Ltd.</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/research-in-motion-limited/rimm/nas">RIMM</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">Apple, Inc.</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>), its bargain basement Treo Centro helped save the day last quarter. Not so much in the latest quarter.<br /><br /> But good news is coming. The company (and a whole community of pre-release fans) is expecting the new Palm Pre smartphone to be the device that would save the company in the current quarter. The new handset, which is shaping up to be a true, functional competitor to the iPhone, looks like a handset worthy of that stated comparison.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/20/palms-q3-loss-widens-all-hope-now-rests-on-the-pre/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Palm's Q3 loss widens; all hope now rests on the Pre</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/20/palms-q3-loss-widens-all-hope-now-rests-on-the-pre/">Palm's Q3 loss widens; all hope now rests on the Pre</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 09:50:00 EST. Roger McNamee, a Palm investor, <a href="http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/siliconalley/mobile/palm_investor_palm_pre_way_cooler_than_the_iphone_2009_3.html">believes </a>that the Pre will make the iPhone history. <br /><br />With the first batch of iPhone contracts set to expire in June, Palm is targeting a same-month release for its smartphone. McNamee believes that on the "two-year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone ... not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later." McNamee contends that this scenario will come to fruition because the Pre will be "the coolest product on the market."<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/09/is-palms-pre-pre-hype-deserved/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Is Palm's pre-Pre hype deserved?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/09/is-palms-pre-pre-hype-deserved/">Is Palm's pre-Pre hype deserved?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 10:30:00 EST.
