Pamela Anderson is a headline - not news - but SIRIus

A Mr. Barry Peters wrote, what to me was the funniest comment of the week on bloggingstocks.com, "Give people something unique, not another celebrity (whom they can't see; the Pamela Anderson deal on Sirius rates amongst the stupidest things that any company has ever done in the entertainment industry!!! $5 million dollars pissed down the toilet."

I'm still laughing. Barry thank you for taking the time to comment. This week Peter Cohan, Doug McIntire, and I all wrote about the limited potential of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) / XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:XMSR) to succeed from an investment perpsective, regardless of the mergers ultimate outcome or whether subscribers enjoyed the service. Barry supported our positions in great detail outlining the wonderful benefits of Sat-Rad if you live in remote places or are traveling cross-country or just hate commercials. Then he explained why the economics do not work and will not work and added the comment above.

I cannot help but think how often we are awash in news tidbits that are not newsworthy, but Ms. Anderson on a radio 'show', now that's hysterical. Her television show 'Stacked' (yes, that is what Fox TV called it) lasted 1.5 seasons. If people would not watch her, how could Sirius think anyone would want to listen? How serious can they truly be?.

Colonel Sanders postage stamp petition ruffles feathers

http://everystockphoto.s3.amazonaws.com/chicken_poultry_farm_278765_l.jpgTelevision and tabloid star Pamela Anderson has angrily renounced KFC's campaign for a U.S. postage stamp honoring founder Colonel Sanders. Yum! Brands Inc. (NYC:YUM) launched a petition in October asking the U.S. Postal Service to recognize Sander's entrepreneurial spirit with a postage stamp, a symbol of government inefficiency.

Anderson, a longtime animal-rights advocate and spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), has been a harsh critic of the conditions under which chickens are raised for the deep-fryer.

If KFC's campaign is successful, the Colonel will join such recent dignitaries as Wonder Woman, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Cinderella and Judy Garland on our postage stamps.

I wonder if the post office would be more receptive to a series honoring the heroes of fast food, such as Dave Thomas, Ray Kroc, Roy Rogers, and the unknown creator of the fish taco.

For such a series, I'd suggest, instead of conventional glue, they could simply spill a little Coke on the back of each stamp.

Best & Worst: Borat! Sacha Baron Cohen insults all in one fell swoop

This post is written as part of AOL Money & Finance's Best & Worst 2006. Vote for Borat or check out the other nominees in the Up-and-Comer category.

The hit movie Borat!: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, has surpassed all expectations. Originally, the movie was released in a limited number of theaters, with industry insiders predicting it would gross $8 million to $10 million on its first weekend. But the movie pulled in $26.4 million that first weekend, despite the limited release.

By now, the movie has grossed around $100 million and those-in-the-know predict it to eventually gross as much as $300 million. Not bad for a movie that cost about $18 million to make.

The movie is a mockumentary featuring the story of a fictional Kazakh journalist (Sacha Baron Cohen) on his journey to discover America and (the Canadian) Pamela Anderson. Many have criticized the movie as insulting to Kazakhstan and the Kazakh people, when in fact the movie clearly mocks, and through the mockery, criticizes the United States. But perhaps that's part of the movie's appeal.
